Among the annual traditions of Eurofans is speculating whether Poland’s Edyta Górniak will return to Eurovision. Edyta — Poland’s debut entry — placed second at Eurovision 1994. It’s still Poland’s best result to date.

Speculation that she would compete this year has been hotting up and, as we learned today, it wasn’t baseless. Górniak has posted a message on Facebook that says she wanted to return to the contest this year because she has the perfect song. She approached TVP, but unfortunately her people “came back to me with the information that TVP’s artistic directors had someone else…I wanted to give you a beautiful surprise in this special year, but will have to do that in another.”

The single she wanted to sing at Eurovision will be included as a bonus track on her forthcoming album.

Our reactions

While we mourn the lost opportunity, let’s remember her at Eurovision 1994.

Are you sad that she won’t sing at Eurovision? Who could sing for Poland instead?

@Racal Chiara wasn’t a failure. 2009 just wasn’t her year. She came with the same old, same old. If she went again today, she’d slay Europe.

Why on Earth would she want to go back? She managed to place 2nd twenty years ago, when there were less competing countries and less political voting. Not to mention that she was Poland’s first entrant ever, and debuting countries always enjoy some kind of sympathy votes. She would surely place MUCH lower today (Poland never managed to benefit from any neighboring voting) if only she manages to get through semis. Look at all the somehow successful singers who came back (Niamh Kavanagh for Ireland, Edsilia Rombley for the Netherlands, Chiara for Malta, Dana International for Israël, etc.). All of… Read more »

I think its better that Poland chooses something fresh and new like they did last year. They have a lot of talented newcomers who could do well in the contest.

They said NO and I say THANK YOU! She’s done it once and with such a boring overrated ballad back in 1994 and that’s it. She has made her own musical path. Coming back to ESC will not bring any major changes to her career and most likely would bring a major embarrassment because again this is no longer the 90s and the seriously musically driven Eurovision of the past. Unless she just wanted those 15 minutes of fame Eurovision can give and after that it would all go back to zero. Edyta needs to know: she’s far better than… Read more »

@Leaf, the announcement will be on the March 9th, 7PM of Polish time. But @PolishBoy, I don’t think it’ll represent us, cause it has premiered BEFORE the magic date of 1st September.

Guys, everything is clearly written. TVP couldn’t accept her proposition, since they had already found somebody else. Pity, Edyta has a great voice and talent. Hope, she will represent Poland in the future.

I’m kinda happy with the final decision, I don’t think She should try again: sort of been there seen that etc
I bet it will be doda with the English version of riot-ka (Unfortunately as I really dislike the song)
I’d love to see natasza with hipnotyzuj mnie (as much as I’m not a fan of her but the song is amazeballs!!!)

Well then, TVP must be a bunch of d**kheads for not considering music over boobs like last year. On a brighter side, maybe it’s one step closer to seeing Doda represent Poland??

Please TVP choose Sylwia Grzeszczak – she’ll maybe even win it!!! Her songs and voice are amazing, brilliant and professional!!! She reminds me of that women (both voice and outlook are similar) that was a member of Urban Symphony which represented Estonia in 2009 and placed 6th. She’s perfect for Eurovision!!!
