Tonight Poland kicked off another week of artist announcements on the talk show “Swiat sie kreci”, announcing that Monika Kuszynska will sing “In The Name Of Love” at Eurovision 2015. It is a beautiful ballad, and a total 180 from the pump-and-thrust of Donatan & Cleo in 2014. Monika will bring a touching ballad and a touching story. Paralyzed during a car accident in 2006, she now relies on a wheelchair.

“In the Name of Love” — Monika Kuszynska

During the presentation show the good and the great of the Polish music scene appeared. Donatan and Cleo were on hand to wish her well at the start of her journey, as were other Polish celebrities like Halina Frackowiak, the famous Polish singer, Marek Sierocki, a music journalist and the Eurovision commentator of TVP. Everybody seemed delighted.

Who is Monika Kuszynska?

Born in 1980, Monika is relatively unknown in Poland. She was the lead singer of the Polish band “Varius Manx”. In 2006 she was involved in a car accident, which left her paralyzed. But she has kept on moving musically. Her first solo album was released in 2012 and it reached #40 in the charts. And now she is headed to Vienna!

What do y’all think? Did Poland make a good choice? Are you inspired by her personal story? Let us know below!

If you agree with the idea of Edyta Górniak representing Poland in 2016, give a like to this fanpage: https://www.facebook.com/edytagorniaknaeurowizje

I’m not the author, I’m just helping voluntarily since I saw the fanpage somewhere between the comments on Edyta’s official FB fanpage.

@Leo – well, that I agree with.

@withlove just saying a lot of the songs in the second semi are all a bit similar with big female singers. I like Malta’s song but the rest of them are pretty average. Poland will prob get to final but Switzerland, Latvia and Iceland will struggle get to the final

and of course I meant to say ‘Icelandic’. Just because it’s being sung by a female doesn’t make it a ballad. It’s not uptempo, I agree but it’s more or less the same tempo as Children of the Universe. And that wasn’t a ballad.

@Leo – since when is Islandic song a ballad? And I would argue about Malta after their revamp. Plus, Latvia is an electro-ballad, while Switzeland is pure pop, and Poland is the only alto/chillout ballad in the competition really (that’s what Boggie was trying to do but messed up). So yeah, there might be a lot of ballads, but they are so different!

Another Ballad. That’s now Poland, Switzerland, Latvia, Iceland and Malta all with ballads in the second semi with Norway, San Marino and Montenegro are all likely to have ballads as well. Boring.

It’s a ballad but one that moves and goes somewhere! It also sounds very polished and professional.

I feel a little shameful today. Wrote yesterday over this Polish act if they don´t have a younger fresher artist. Now I feel shame cause the fact she is paralyzed. No doubt but her at all. BUt feel shame I wrote the comment of this reason. I feel it is just what many other will do!

This is a ballad done right. Pretty good song. It stands out from the other shitty ballads.

Nice and mellow …. Sounds like a mid tempo ballad, but it is quite dated in a way which makes it quirky and not old fashioned, tho I find it quite repetitive this might qualify …….
HOPING for something different from the remaining unknown songs, cos tho I KNOW every ballad is different and all but imagine a line up of a semi where we have 16-17 songs and 15 of them are ballads …. It means a lot of those will cancel each other with the voters.

Yes. This is great. I love the way that the song has a driving force that gets more intense as it gets to the end.

It’s an “OK” song, but I loved her voice. One of the best singers of this year. (maybe the best one?)

Nice singer, cool TVP is offering a relatively “unknown” with a wheelchair. i admire that courage. Song is a bit meh, but it’s nice.

Okay she is an admirable person and the video is beautiful but i’m now drowning in a sea of ballads at this years Eurovision. You know I really hate our entry this year (UK) but at least it will provide some much needed up-tempo relief from all these ballads.

Another ballad. When TVP has the chance look over the other songs they choose this! They could have a strong ballad not this poor song
And the artist not shine at all

Eh, I don’t care what others think, I really like it. She’s gonna get through to the final considering she’s paralysed, sorta like how Finland will, but this song IS good.

ok, to all the ignorants commenting on the Polish representative – Monika is a great singer with an amazing song who just happens to be disabled. Is her disability a deciding factor that prohibits her from ever entering contests such as Eurovision? There’s no way she’d ever let TVP play the ‘paralysed’ card, not in a million years. On the other hand, you cannot change the fact that she’s wheelchair-bound because that’s the reality but it doesn’t make “In the name of love” any better or worse. It might only make it more symbolic and meaningful. I’m really PROUD that… Read more »

Not sure what is happening this year. Either a song is a wow or not. This is not. So why are countries sending just average songs? I don’t get it!!

Another ballad, because that’s just what ESC 2015 needs. It’s a lovely song and a beautiful singer but we all know that it’s because she is paralyzed that she will get votes, kudos to her for continuing with her music, but Polish tv should be ashamed of itself for using her injury, much in the way it used cleavage last year to get votes. There is no need to enter with niches and gimmicks like that, it’s a song contest!! Let’s face it if Austria’s entry last year was sung by a woman or a man who wasn’t in drag… Read more »

Funny to me how you all were claiming we should look past the artist’s dissabilities wen PKN won in Finland, but now y’all are touched by her being in a wheelchair. Hypocrites much?

Even if this is ONE MORE ballad…it is a good one! Very nice music and the fact she is paralyzed is touching..!! Good luck Poland!

It is a ballad, but it is different that other good ballads of this year. Greece and Spain, for instance, are bit faster and driven by temperament emotions, while Poland has truly tender and soft ballad. I love it, 9th on my list so far.

i will clificate this individualy, is a great song, very beautiful artist, la cancion es como una caricia al alma, the mensaje is perfect, and came in my top 10

no tiene la culpa de las deciciones de otros paises,AUNQUE ME DA GUSTO QUE HAYA BUENA MUSICA EN EL FESTIVAL SI RECUERDAN AL PRINCIPIO EL FESTIVAL DE ESO SE TRATABA, BUENA S BALADAS QUE NUNCA PASAN DE MODA.

Ballad. Again.

She’s paralyzed, and kudos for continuing her music career nevertheless.

BUT, it’s a ballad. And she is paralyzed, which may “steal” votes because of it. Why ESC is becoming more of a statement contest than music contest? Finland!!!

I really enjoyed the song and the video. It is very emotional and combined with the video makes you feel her pain. With the right staging this could do pretty well. Who cares how many ballads there are, I would rather have a bunch of better ballads like Monika’s than a bunch of cheap upbeat songs (looking at you Moldova).

“Monika is relatively unknown in Poland” – this is not true. She is well known, because Varioux Manx used to be ultra popular band.

Can’t decide if it’s just average or really good. Probably won’t enter my Top 10 but it’s still enjoyable enough.

I’m really happy with this song choice! It gave me goosebumps the first time I listened to it! It’s number 7 on my rankings now and I wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually makes it to my top 5!
PS I think that this will stick out over other ballads (because this one actually goes somewhere) and I think Poland will qualify for the second year straight!

So sad that this song has to compete with a million other ballads, because this is really good and would stand out in years, where there normally aren’t so many ballads. I really like this song on the first listen and second listen it only got better!
