The Wiwi Jury – our in-house panel of music unprofessionals – is in Sweden reviewing the acts of Melodifestivalen 2015. Today we cracked out the foils, bleached our hair pink and spent the developing time listening to Dinah Nah and her track ‘Make Me (La La La)’. Did she put our heads in a spin with the dance track or just leave us dizzy? Read on to find out!

Dinah Nah with ‘Make Me (La La La)’

http://youtu.be/jcoAcXGzhZ0

Robyn: I’m so glad this amazing club banger beat the cutesy “Hello Hi”. There’s loads of energy here, and the Swedes have solved the problem of what to do during instrumental portions of an electropop song (the answer: amazing dancing). My only issue – Dinah is 35 and looks older than the teen pop persona she’s trying to pull off. Leave the pink hair to Dolly Style.

Score: 8/10

Deban: Like an intense sugar rush, Dinah Nah gives you wings to work the dancefloor. However, after a minute of this, you realise that you’re running on empty. “La La La” is a sad cliche of what modern pop music has become,  Full of additives, enhancements and recycled material, you know that consuming this fizz could be harmful long-term. However, as a naughty treat, it’s ok to indulge a little.

Score: 4.5/10

Bogdan: The song is alright, but the chorus is a bit of a let down after the engaging opening. (I find any chorus that contains “la la la’s” instead of actual words lazy.) Luckily afterwards the dubstep kicks in and all is good in the world again. Not perfect, but good. Dinah has charisma and I love the choreography, the dancers and the camera work.

Score: 7/10

Billy: What does the pink hair stand for? “Make Me” has some classic pop sounds mixed together, like David Guetta’s “She Wolf” music. The choreography could be much better. And Dinah Nah looks too old for this pop song. Nothing special here.

Score: 4/10

Angus: Dinah Nah  thinks she’s still, she’s still Dinah from the block, and dubious as I was at first her swagger is starting to win me round. ‘Make Me (La La La)’ has a killer breakdown and the ponytail head-spins are totally tdf. The truth though? Isa and Eric have better bangers, and they actually dance. Standing still and performing third is going to cost Dinah dearly.

Score: 5/10

Padraig: Dinah’s basically gobbled up a book of cheesy English metaphors and spewed the contents all over this perfectly serviceable dance beat. Such a waste.

Score: 5/10

Denise: When I listened to the 30 seconds clip, I was really dissapointed. It looked like an old woman who wants to be 16 again with a song without a climax. But now… I really really like it! The perfomance in her heat was way better than I expected it to be and her Andra Chansen performance was simply brilliant. Love the dancers, love the song.

Score: 8/10

Sami: Dinah may be twice as old as Isa, but she is working the live performance and the song a million times better than Isa. Dinah sounds amazing and the live show is just incredible. Of course her dancers are the main thing in it, but the song is also great and so catchy! She also was much better in the Andra Chansen than in her heat, so I’m expecting even better performance in the final.

Score: 9/10

Ron: This song definitely makes me la la la! I love the beat, the cool camera movements and the vibe. I’m so happy she got her place in the final, since she sure deserves it (and without a doubt more than the silly Dolly Style). Dinah Nah is cute and she’s a great workout coacher, but she doesn’t really convince me, she should go a little more crazy than she does..maybe in the final she will?

Score: 8/10

William: Instead of saying “let’s go”, she should really say “y’all go” — Dinah don’t dance! In fact, it’s safe to say that none of the highlights — the floor-stomping production, the killer dancing, the smoke effects — come from Dinah. She’s merely a vehicle for the performance taking part around her. That said, I love it. She’s grown in confidence and I’m starting to believe there is a wild diva wearing that pink hair! You go girl!

Score: 7.5/10

Wiwi Jury Verdict: 6.6/10

I really like this entry. Well-done pop dance, and quite well sung too. In a year with almost no dance songs to be found anywhere in any national selections, this one sticks out.

And btw, wiwi jury, is it better to keep your vocals on point and not dance, or dance but mess your vocals? Her voice is awesome, and she should present it in this song!

Why so much bothering about her age?? Ace Wilder is (I think) 2 year younger, did you complain? No.
I am def rooting for Make me to win the whole MF, Mans became so annoying with all of the HEY IT’S MANS IT’S THE BEST comments; Eric’s song is average. If not Dinah, I would like Mariette to go to Vienna 🙂

I actually think her pink hair is a nice and fun touch, so I wouldn’t call it a mistake, but that’s merely personal appreciation 😉

The song grew on me, at first I dismissed it as just another generic pop song.. well it still is, but an enjoyable one nonetheless.

Alongside Mans and Mariette I’ll be rooting for Dinah on saturday.

She is only two years older than Ace Wilder. Why didn’t you say that Ace was too old for her song?

At first, I wanted Dollys in the Final, and I still want it. But if I have to choose,
Dina nah brings the power with all the ballads and slow songs that went to Viena.
Mans and Mariette……..that would mean more boooooring songs. DINAH NAH TILL VIENA!

Yeah, you are all right. Dina Nah sucks. You should better send Hasse… Oh God whoever scored it with less than 7/10 is an idiot.

The producer of this song and the one that approached Dinah Nah with launching her carreer with having her entering in this Melodifestivalen 2015 is the maker of Azerbaijan’s entries 2010 *Drip Drop* & 2012 *When The Music Dies* in our Vision….So i can see then why this song is so beautiful..

Ok her song is fantastic…One of the best songs of the Melodifestivalen 2015.. She has lots of supporters that want her to win in 3 days on the Friends Arena Finalen.. She might not be my no1 favorite but i won’t mind her if she wins & represent Sweden in the Diamond Vision…Her song will deserve it with such beautiful it is.. 8 / 10 And i have not rated many songs with such high grade 4 the record.. I’m strict on my grades in rating songs 4 the Vision here…Sorry.. By the way…The reaction from the japanish famagotsi haratsuku… Read more »

why are you always focusing on her age??? she’s born in 1980, she’s 34, not 50 as you say!! and she doesn’t even look close to 50 or 40 either!! so shut up and listen to the song

She comes from the Cher and Celine Dion rule of performing. Do a couple hand motions and leave the dancing to the backups. William is spot on with “She’s merely a vehicle for the performance taking part around her.” Deban too, with “As a naughty treat, it’s ok to indulge a little.”

I am a fan of the chore-non-graphy, including the “I’m in a 1920s vaudeville act,” the “My hand is a dolphin,” the “I don’t have the commitment to do the running man,” and especially the “what if Jennifer Lawrence were a Roomba.” I think this is my new #1, passing both Magnus and Mariette.
