The Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — continues its journey through Austria ahead of the Wer Singt Für Österreich 2015 final this Friday. Partying is part of our life – the nightlife of Vienna is truly a big thing and shaking our tushies is so much fun – perfect location to review Celina Ann with her song “Utopia“. How did our jury react? Would this be the perfect representative for the host country? Read on to find out.
CELINA ANN – “UTOPIA”
Deban: “Tender” is the name of the game here. Celena Ann belts her number with quiet intensity. This is coupled with a stage presentation that looks the part! “When I Fall” ministers positivity to the vulnerable soul. Although not particularly memorable, this is a well crafted piece. Sadly, it may struggle to stand out amongst a sea of better ballads at the mother contest.

Max: You know when you walk in to a clothes shop and hear some miscellaneous background music playing whilst you browse? This is one of those songs. It’s easy on the ears for a couple of minutes until you realise it’s not for you and switch it off straight away. The lyrics about ‘walking on eggshells’ just don’t belong in a song, it’s not a flowing sort of phrase. She has a good voice but I’m not impressed with the song at all. I’d rather be on Earth with the likes of Silvia Night and Dustin the Turkey than in Utopia with Celina Ann.

Chris: The verses of “Utopia” seem to be building for a rather epic chorus, but ultimately
that chorus is underwhelming. Celina Ann is certainly a good singer, but she doesn’t really emote enough in the song until the very end. Even then, it’s somewhat lacking. The ending also falls flat. It’s not offensively bad, but it’s nothing special.

Anthony: After three shows listening to her, I’ve got a soft spot for Celina Ann. Her first entry “When I Fall” was basically a ballad. Thankfully, the juries made the right decision to go for the more uptempo “Utopia”. She oozes such confidence so note to Austria, please give her that ticket to Vienna!

Robyn: This is so boring – a run-of-the-mill Eurovision lady pop song and an utterly safe choice. Going on the assumption that Austria probably doesn’t want to win again, they can afford to take risks and have fun this year. A song like this isn’t worth it.

Denise: Just an average song. It’s my favourite for this national final together with Zoe, but it’s saying more about the quality of all the other songs than about this song. I think this song will be forgotten really soon, especially with an early running spot.

Mikhail: Celina Ann has a nice voice, good performance and a pretty decent song. However, I don’t have a feeling that I want to listen to it again. It is just a one time song. Nothing special.

Judit: She has a really good voice, and at least this isn’t a ballad, but something is missing. Between two emotional ballads it can work, and would get some points but won’t win, I can bet on it.

Patrick: Celina Ann has one of the best voices in the Austrian NF and the song fits her perfectly! It’s not another ballad, it’s fresh, it’s good and pop. “Utopia” has a perfect mixture of melody, voices and instrumental influences. I think the international jury will love her, and I understand why! She is great and would be a great representative!

Easily my least favorite entry in the competition. She’s got a weak, nasal voice that doesn’t sound very pleasant, particularly on the high notes. The song isn’t too bad but it needs a better singer.

Its not bad as a song and it stands out from the 6 songs in Austrian NF.. Ok anyone have the right to write whatever wants and i don’t judge at all or criticize others like im better or give a damn about the comments of everyone here…I have my dark side too.. But i wish i hadn’t myself read this comment…Gross…Eww.. But i couldn’t know what its going to be about really so i can’t undo this now unfortunately..
