Tonight’s Melodifestivalen final had it all: Dinah Nah really made us “la la la”, Jon Henrik Fjällgren touched us with his traditional joik and we all wanted to take a “Groupie” with Samir & Victor. But there could only be the one winner and having taken first place in all of our pre-contests polls and rankings, Måns Zelmerlöw followed it up with an absolute landslide victory. He will go to Eurovision with “Heroes”!

Måns won with a total of 288 points, beating Jon Henrik Fjällgren in to second place. The result never seemed to be in question as soon as the international juries coming in, with Måns picking up top marks from nine of the eleven juries. The show ran in to some technical troubles halfway through when the #melfest app crashed halfway through the show, which meant that only televotes and SMS counted in the public vote.

Surprisingly, Eric Saade struggled and ultimately finished fifth in his return to Melodifestivalen, with Mariette and Hasse Andersson finishing 3rd and 4th ahead of him. That was certainly a sting in the tale!

Måns admitted in our interview with him that “Heroes” was not initially his song for Melodifestivalen, but quickly changed his choice of song once he had heard “Heroes” for the first time – a choice that certainly paid off! “Heroes” was written by former Melodifestivalen winners Joy and Linnea Deb, who were co-writers on Robin Stjernberg’s “You” in 2013. They penned “Heroes” alongside Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad.

Final Scoreboard

1. Måns Zelmerlöw, “Heroes” 288 pts
2. Jon Henrik Fjällgren, “Jag är fri (Manne Leam Frijje)” 139pts
3. Mariette, “Don’t Stop Believing” 102pts
4. Hasse Andersson, “Guld och gröna skogar” 78pts
5. Eric Saade, “Sting” 77pts
6. Linus Svenning, “Forever Starts Today” 59pts
7. Isa, “Don’t Stop” 56pts
8. Samir & Viktor, “Groupie” 49pts
9. Magnus Carlsson, “Möt mig i Gamla stan” 28pts
10. JTR, “Building It Up” 25pts
11. Jessica Andersson, “Can’t Hurt Me Now” 23pts
12. Dinah Nah, “Make Me (La La La)” 22pts

Wiki just posted the final figures. Had they thrown out the first round of voting that decided the final 5 in each round, and used the second round of votes ALONE to decide who went to the finals and who went to A.C., here’s what we would have seen: In Heat 1, Elize and Rickard would have gone straight to the final in the 1st heat alongside Eric, and bumped Jessica down to A.C. with Dolly Style. Behrang Miri and Victor Crone would have been out. In Heat 2, Direkt till Final for Linus, alongside Magnus, and Mariette would have… Read more »

A post-MelFest afterthought: If Hasse should entertain the idea of trying again, I hope they talk him into recruiting AVICII to give his next song a slightly electro bend!! 😛

I find this song boring and nothing special and definetely not a top 10 song. Im afraid it cant qualify either (Sweden 2010….). Good luck anyway the guy is cute.

@bavarson: It was not lost on me that “Heroes” was a bit reminiscent of Robin Stjernberg’s “You”. If he finishes as far down the leaderboard as Robin did, we’ll know that it was not lost on a lot of people around Europe.

I thought maybe, just maybe, Jon Henrik might steal it on the jury vote. He won on one of the 11 cards (U.K.), and Mariette won on another (Israel); but Måns won on the other 9, and Jon Henrik needed to beat him by 49 points on the public vote. That wasn’t going to happen. Nevertheless, here is how I saw the finale. I use 5 criteria, for which all ties were broken: Samir and Viktor: “Groupie” (A.C.), 9.10 (10th) Final result: 8th. They were doomed when they were given the pole position. Then again, I didn’t think they had… Read more »

Just a question to everyone saying “Måns is homphobe”, would Conchita (The gay icon of ESC) give Måns a 12 if he was homophobe? Don’t think so, so why did she do it then? 😮

@WTF it’s really hard, because I enjoy music and I can’t enjoy something like Israel’s entry. I hate listening to radio or music channels, I just hate to hear music I don’t like. I explore music often and mostly I find 1 good song even if I listen to different songs more than hour. There are 3 songs what I really like this year and one more that I listen to. 4 Eurovision songs on my playlist is not bad. Oh, and I have Mama Ain’t Proud by Guy Sebastian on my playlist as well, but it will not be… Read more »

@Darren there are different opinions. I actually like Aminata’s screaming.

This is not weakest year for me. Last year I liked only 3 songs, this year I like 4. And that’s a record for me. There have been years when I like none of the songs.

As you know I have been monitoring the iTunes charts in Sweden over the last 2 weeks. These are how the Top 6 were consistently throughout. They have their final positions, followed by public vote positions in brackets. They are still the Top 6 songs from the finals RIGHT NOW!!! 1) Måns (1st) (1st) 2) Samir & Victor (8th) (6th) 3) Hasse (4th) (3rd) 4) Dinah (12th) (10th) 5) Jon Hendric (2nd) (2nd) 6) ISA (7th) (7th) So clearly the Swedes really liked, Samir & Victor, Dinah, and ISA, but this did not translate into votes, but for Måns, Hasse… Read more »

You have to remember that most of the songs in Sweden were average or below average and it was easy for Måns to stand out as the staging was excellent and was easily the best in Sweden. When it comes to the ESC final there are going to be some top top songs in there, it may not be as easy for him? If it was based on the staging alone Sweden would win now. The song is not a WOW for me, but the staging is, hard one. It was easily the best song in Sweden as the iTunes… Read more »

Have to say, it’s the poorest year since 2010 in Oslo. It was a hard top 10. It’s clear that Ukraine is missed this year, they would have had something crazy. Waiting for Azerbaijan to reveal their song, no doubt something to do with fire, but I don’t hold out much hope (only liked them in 2009, 2010 and 2012)

Let’s get some stuff straight here: You may or may not like the song, that’s up to your personal tastes. But don’t base your decision on “homophobia” or “Lovers On The Sun”-likeness. Why? Let’s start with the end: “Lovers On The Sun” is a great song, and it leverages the Italian-Western-Movie kind of music combined with modern styles in a great way. So does “Heroes”. Both start softly/moodily and explodes in the chorus. There stops the likeness. If that is copycat stuff, then just about every song ever sung in Eurovision is a copy of something else – not to… Read more »

With international juries song in swedish don t have chance to win at Melodifestivalne. We saw in past years, that song finished in last 3 place with internatonal jurie got many point from swedish public Hasse this year (3 on televote and only last place 11/12 with international juries. Thorsten in 2012 onlz 3 points from interantion juries and 40 from swedish televote. SVT drop international juries or 5 international 5 swedish region

@ Sal, no you’re right it’s not that special it’s like a thousand times better than a finland or moldova, but this wasn’t a special song, it’s the act that people liked combined with the looks, and yes his voice was very good as well but the song itself was o…kay. Mariette or Jon Henrik were more special and had a better melody in their song in my opinion… same with Linus Svenning…. but this.. I think heroes is my least favorite of Sweden since Eric Saade… but at least this guy can’t sing! Sweden could’ve had such an amazing… Read more »

I’m sorry but can somebody please explain this to me. I DON’T GET HOW THIS SONG IS SO POPULAR. I feel like everyone’s in on this secret and I’m left out. The song leaves me completely cold, I think it’s average at best. The lyrics are pretentious and self-indulgent – ‘we are the heroes of our time’…really? who is? You are, Mans? Right…

Really really really hoping this won’t win in May :'(

Jury manipulated voting again! In semi final Jon Henrik Fjallgren was much more popular than Mans Zelmerlow! Look at results from 2014. Ace Wilder reached a very poor result in semi final, but she was 2nd in televoting in final, because she was first after points from jury in final!

David Guetta is rubbing his hands in glee. He’s gonna win the Eurovision without even entering the contest. If Robin Thicke and Farrell Williams lost their battle in court with a much less obvious plagiarism case, this one will be easy peasy.

Don’t know why I’m still watching this show. Most songs are songs what grannies would listen. Ok, my top: 1. Latvia 10/10 (I’m obsessed with this song. It’s my #1 hit followed by Kat Dahlia – I Think I’m In Love and Bebe Rexha – Gone) 2. Slovenia 9/10 (love her voice, love her style) 3. Estonia 8/10 (all top 4 songs are on my playlist. I thibk top 3 will stay like this till the end of the show) 4. United Kingdom 7/10 (it’s original. I want someone to make TRAP remix for this. I even have this on… Read more »

Against so many calm songs this year (which I wouldn’t disregard), “Heroes” can really stands out and reach TOP 5 or even win. Let’s say we have two “genres” this year: calm songs and the rest. “Heroes” belongs to the second type, in which it has no real challenger except Belgium. There is, to my mind, one condition – Mans has to preserve his marvellous and very modern staging with all those effects on the screens. Before us the announcements of the songs from Australia and the eternal contender for winning – Azerbaijan. Thus, all rankings can still change. What… Read more »

For me it’s currently Italy vs. Sweden. The classic vs. current. I’m still feeling that Italy has WINNER written all over it, but Sweden definitely came up with a worthy opposition. Personally I cannot even decide which of the two I love best. Both are such masterpieces, and they now top my top 2015 list together. Heja Sverige!

@Adam: I fully agree with what you’re saying. To continue on the same line, my issue is not so much whether what he said was homophobic (it was), but rather whether it’s meaningful or appropriate for other people here to call him a homophobe when (if what you’re saying is true, which I’m apt to believe it is) he apologized and regularly makes high-profile strides to show his solidarity with the gay community (just search for some pictures of him on google images to see what he was doing at those events… lol). Everybody has some degree of homophobia (including… Read more »
