Whoever says Eurovision and its selection shows are irrelevant and only popular among diehard Eurofans needs to take a look at the Melodifestivalen 2015 voting results. This year Swedes cast a total of 14,426,739 votes during their national selection contest, showing interest is higher than ever. SVT has pulled out the most interesting nuggets here — see, for instance, the fact that Magnus Carlsson actually trailed Samir & Viktor after the first round of voting in their heat. You can also download the complete results in .pdf format here.

Other highlights, as described by SVT:

  • Eric Saade, Mariette, Jon Henrik Fjällgren and Måns Zelmerlöw won their heats
  • Jessica Andersson, Magnus Carlsson, Isa and JTR finished as runners-up in their heats
  • Dolly Style, Samir & Viktor, Andreas Weise and Hasse Andersson finished in third place in their heats
  • Behrang feat. Victor Crone, Linus Svenning, Kristin Amparo and Dinah Nah placed fourth to scrape into Andra Chansen
  • Eric Saade had the highest percentage of votes in a single heat with 36.71% of the evening’s 1,222,692 votes. Yohio, however, still holds the record: In Karlskrona 2013 he earned 47.2% of the votes. Mans Zelmerlöw recorded the second best percentage with 30%.
  • Mans Zelmerlöw earned the highest number of votes in a heat with 771,423 in race four.
  • He also had the largest margin of victory. His 771,423 votes put him 385, 521 ahead of JTR.

Eric Saade – similar subtle entry to Zeljko Joksimovi?, Hari Mata Hari or Aram Mp3
Mans Zelmerlow – inaccurate, overrated crap

@Kevin : It’s because the app failed in the final, so the only possibility was to vote via telephone and SMS. Being paying options, they are of course less appealing.

It can be seen how problematic this kind of voting is in the example of Elize & Rickard.

Can someone explain why performers gained larger number of votes in semi finals than in the final? Should not be that the opposite? People took some contestants to the final and then voted only 60 000 votes?

There also seems to be a huge drop in votes in the second round, I’d also like to see the split in app voting/televoting. It would be quite good to analyse who benefitted from the App voting

@Calvin: Indeed. I’ll repeat what I said in the announcement thread: Once 6th and 7th place in each heat were decided, if the 1st round of votes in each heat were all thrown out, and the 2nd round of votes ALONE decided who went to the final and who went to Andra Chansen, this is how it would have turned out: Heat 1: Elise and Rickard would have joined Eric in the final, and bumped Jessica down to A.C. with Dolly Style, and Behrang Miri and Victor Crone would have been sent packing. Heat 2: Direkt till Final for Linus,… Read more »

Im still thinking that the top 2 of this year will be Sweden and Italy… Its difficult that any country surpass this 2 because they are both appealing to the Public and Juries

@No name

Robin with “You” in 2013 was dropped to andra chansen before making it through and winning. He won the international jurors as well. Obviously this is a rare occurence but sometimes gems go unoticed.

WOW…! Mans Zemerlow earned almost 550.000 votes on the final!! John Henrik that finished 2nd runner up in televoting gathered ”only” 288.000… The 3rd Hasse took 222.000 votes..! Wow! Eric Saade as fourth gathered only 96.000 votes! So the fact that he won his semifinal with very big percentage doesn’t matter when he gathered this low number of votes in the grand final.. If he was competing with not big hot favorites necessarily but with just bigger opponents with stronger songs he would not had gathered that big percentage of votes in the semifinal instead.. His lame song did not… Read more »

Like seriously, why do they even have a second round if the results in the first round is the outcome in every semifinal? The fourth and fifth placers doesn’t have any chance no matter how many votes they get in the second round. I’m mad. They should have it like before, when the votes were reset after the first round.

Elize/Rickard in first round of voting on 5 place of 7, in second round of voting 2 of 5 . They and Molly is suffer becuase in first semifinal on start have some problem with new app voting procedure. Wihouth that problem Elize and Ricard would go to second chance and from second chance to final

Looking at these results, Elize/Rickard not making it is an even larger load of B.S.
