Norway, Debrah Scarlett, 1

Mørland & Debrah Scarlett — Norway’s Eurovision 2015 duo — have recovered from the food fight in their official music video for “A Monster Like Me” and recently found the time to cover Alexander Rybak’s Eurovision 2009 winning song “Fairytale”. Surely Alex — Norway’s last Eurovision winner — will appreciate the efforts of M & D. We know that we do!

The video has been online for almost two months now, but has clocked fewer than 25,000 views. This is unacceptable. That’s why we have decided to dig up this gift from the Norwegian duo and share it with all of y’all tonight.

The duo have replaced Rybak’s violins with guitars. It works surprisingly well and gives “Fairytale” a totally different vibe. This is less mountain aerobics and more underground garage band. It’ll likely appeal to those who loved “Fairytale” — and those who thought it was something of a nightmare.

Kjetil (Mørland) takes the lead here, with Debrah providing the backing. Unlike Alexander’s backing vocalists in Moscow, she really works the lower register. We love a woman who can go deep! Mørland’s voice resembles Rybak’s at times: just check the first few seconds of the video.

Are you feeling Mørland & Debrah Scarlett’s version of “Fairytale” or do you prefer the original? Will this prove to be the fourth Norwegian winners’ version of the country’s third victor? Convoluted question, but you know what we mean. Sound off below!

I was completely shocked when Alex Ryback won. Like, COMPLETELY EFFIN FLOORED that Fairytale won. I completely detested it! But this? I love it. I get the song now, whereas the Ryback version was undigestibly saccharine. I can’t wait to see how Norway does this year.

Wonderful cover of my favorite Eurovision winner! I love how they gave it such a dark vibe. I really hope they win this year. They’re so cool and perform well together.

I love them and I love their cover! Well done.
A Monster Like Me is my second favorite to win (incredible live performance) right after Estonia.

Awesome cover, and it’s great to see Alex being so supportive of it too, sharing it on his pages and what not. They’re my absolute favourite this year, but even if they don’t win it’s awesome seeing someone who actually wrote their song get to perform it on the Eurovision stage. Must be a dream come true!

I think any other year Norway could’ve done well but this year is Sweden’s year. 🙂

That being said though I love the cover! It’s dark and haunting and incredible.

This is way better than Alexander’s version and I really don’t like him as a person either. Mørland and Debrah Scarlett’s cool factor has basically broken the charts after seeing this cover. They’re my number-one this year and I can’t wait to see how amazing “A Monster Like Me” does in Vienna.
