After one week and almost 1,500 votes in our poll, Moldova’s Aliona Moon has emerged as the undisputed queen of the projection dress, with 43.38 percent of all votes for the lava-lamp-like gown she wore at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Sorry, J. Lo….

The amazing Moldovan songstress managed to beat out her predecessor Sabina Babayeva, who represented Azerbaijan in 2012. Sabina was second with 23.47%  (344 votes). Jennifer Lopez was third, with 17.46%  (256 votes).

To quote wiwireader Ranting Ruby, “Aliona was the only one whose vocal kept up with her dress – a very underrated performance!” And we have to agree. It is true that Sabina put the LED dress on the map, but Aliona Moon put the map on the wall!

Initially, Aliona’s dress at the national final was very understated and drew a lot of comparisons to Sabina Babayeva’s gown the year before.

Aliona’s dress at the Eurovision, measuring five meters in height, had to be shipped separately. Moldova’s government helped with a reported sum of 1.5 million euro. The financial effort paid off and the dressed both literally and metaphorically elevated the song. “O mie” not only qualified for the Grand Final but also finished 11th on the scoreboard. The impressive staging drew praise from Team Wiwi as well. From the moment it made an appearance at the rehearsals, Moldova’s odds changed in its favour.

Here is Aliona Moon speaking about the record-breaking dress she wore for Eurovision.

And here are the full results of our poll:

What do you think? Is Aliona Moon’s couture the best projection dress so far?

The whole Aliona’s show was great: her vocal performance, the song itself, Romanian language and, of course the scenography of the amazing dress.

I think the synergy between the background and the dress is really what separated Aliona from the rest of the competition; just because you have the dress doesn’t mean you *need* to make it the sole focal point. Plus as both a television viewer or an audience member, you can enjoy it live either way because of the large vertical canvas she provided—the others were more horizontally oriented, so it benefitted more the television viewer than the audience member.

@Teemo
Not 100% sure, but she’s most likely standing on a lift, and the dress covers the entire surface.
