Following its successful launch at last year’s contest in Copenhagen, the BBC will once again host their Eurovision pop-up digital radio service Radio 2 Eurovision.

They’ll be broadcasting live from Vienna from May 21 until May 24 and on DAB Digital Radio, BBC iPlayer Radio and UK Radio Player. Former BBC Three semi-final commentator Paddy O’Connell will host live from Vienna with build-up shows, post-contest programming plus a special interview with last year’s Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst.

Scissor Sisters lead singer Ana Matronic will present the first semi-final at 4pm on May 21, with the second semi-final on 8pm. She’ll also be involved in a warm-up programme from Vienna on May 23 ahead of Saturday’s grand final.

Scott Mills, Sara Cox, Ken Bruce, Steve Wright, Maria McErlane, Tony Blackburn, Sonia, Rufus Hound, Vanessa Feltz and Sir Terry Wogan are also expected to be featured on the pop-up radio service, which also includes a simulcast with Graham Norton’s morning show on BBC Radio 2.

I would have been far more impressed had there been Eurovision flavoured programmes across the mainstream BBC radio stations. Rhythm Inside and Heroes would be relevant to Radio 1, Aina mun pitää and I’m Yours would fit well on 6Music, the rest could be on Radio 2. Instead we get put into an audio ghetto.

Great news, but why have they brought that irritating bore Paddy back? He dI’d an awful job as a commentator!
