The BBC have uploaded Electro Velvet‘s live performance of “Still in Love With You” from the Eurovision’s Greatest Hits concert, finally giving viewers a chance to get a closer look at the swingin’ UK duo.

This was Electro Velvet’s first live public performance of their Eurovision song and when wiwibloggs shared our video of the performance two weeks ago there was a sense of relief from many UK Eurovision fans. Even from the audience, it was obvious that Alex and Bianca (or should that be Ted and Joan?) could sing and had great on-stage chemistry. Fans were also pleased that even though it was a non-televised performance, the BBC had still put a lot of effort into the staging. Watching the finished product, it’s clear that Electro Velvet and friends are capable of making an entertaining performance.

But the Eurovision’s Greatest Hits performance used eight dancers and three backing singers (not to mention a full band). In Vienna, Electro Velvet will only be allowed four extra performers on stage, so the BBC will have some serious culling to do.

Electro Velvet – “Still in Love with You” live at Eurovision’s Greatest Hits

What do you think of Electro Velvet’s performance at Eurovision’s Greatest Hits? How will the staging translate to the Eurovision stage in Vienna? Leave your comments below!

Not necessarily related to Malta (or UK), but since you brought it up, I predicted that Mei wouldn’t qualify last year. She was NOT robbed. Her staging and wardrobe were horrendous, and the song and performance weren’t nearly good enough to overcome that. Aggressive, husky voiced women strutting around the stage glowering at the camera never do well at Eurovision, as last year proved several times. I’m not sure who the audience for that sort of thing is, but most of them seem to be in the Eurovision fan base – who, as we’ve often noted, are vastly outnumbered by… Read more »

@Mawnk, your own opinion that Amber is squeaky, but please i still think Malta is good enough for the final, so don’t let her be another Mei finegold from Israel who was robbed last year.

Mili – Now THAT’S a performance!

Can’t you guys hear how much better Lisa Angell is than so many of the other live performances we’ve seen over the last few weeks?

I don’t know if the song is a hit, but she is a HELL of a singer. If she does that in Vienna, it’s gonna blow Edurne right off the stage. Woe be unto any other belter-chick that has to follow that.

“mawnck, if you have UK in 26th, who’ll be 27th ?” Germany. Her song is not that good, her (deliberate) singing through her nose is incredibly irritating (“blaaak smawwwke”), and her pitch is kind of lousy. I have yet to see any performance by her that I would consider remotely competitive, and some of them (especially the 2nd one at the NF) have been painful to watch. There are acts in the contest that, based on the current evidence, I suspect will be even worse (Portugal, San Marino, Armenia and Norway spring instantly to mind), but none of them are… Read more »

The times that i have refreshed the page just to check if there are all new articles but there weren’t any are just too many..! 😛 🙂

@ Eugene wiwi buddy
Actually it was just my personal view & how i see UK’s actual chances with my personal prism..
Ok we had just a misunderstanding about that..

If how many Brits will gonna bet their precious money on UK celebrating its 6th victory in the Vision they will gonna lose them 4 sure..

Last year i actually bet with my $ money 1-2 days before the grand final to Conchita winning the Copenhagen’s Vision and i won! <3 🙂

Have you ever bet on EuroVision with your money..? 🙂

Just Mario :- If you have a look I said “I currently have the UK between 15th and 20th!!” As it stands, I’m not expecting them to win or come in the Top 10? Not sure where you got that from?

Nicky1991 – Amber is squeaky. Davve – This performance was the Greatest Hits concert’s warmup act, but was not part of the broadcast. This is the first professional-quality video of it we’ve seen. If I were cynical (which I am), I would point out that this would give them extra time to mix and tweak the audio. But if I were an audio engineer (which I also am), I’d note that the audio is in mono – which is dumb – and could’ve used a lot more tweaking than it got. It’s weird. All that work on the stage presentation,… Read more »

@ Eugene wiwi buddy.. I can say with total confidence that UK is NOT expected to get the victory in the upcoming Diamond Vision.. It will be surprising if your country even hits the top10 alone.. 4 me the big hot favorites countries to win the upcoming Vision are.. Italy / Estonia / Sweden ~ These countries are dark horses 4 their chance to win but are alive to get the victory.. Slovenia / Georgia / Malta / Spain / Iceland / Norway ~ These countries that can do great but are outsiders to win.. Belgium / Denmark / Austria… Read more »

Scary discoveries from this new video: (1) Oh good Lord, she really IS missing that “high” note. It wasn’t the acoustics. (2) They need three backing singers who aren’t dancing to pull off the “day-unce” stuff. That leaves them … one dancer? (Or maybe air-violinist? Is that idea taken yet?) (3) Their stage presence is nonexistent. Their energy level is undetectable. Their chemistry is inert. (4) His scat singing (and I use both terms loosely) is even more dreadful when you can hear it clearly. Some of it is scat-talking. On the plus side, it now sounds so totally unlike… Read more »

Ahhhhh cheers Just Mario :- I agree I currently have the UK between 15th and 20th!! So yes probably right hand side again. Just remember at this stage last year The Netherlands were 200/1 with the Bookies, that should give everyone hope, (only if they can come up with a WOW staging of course.) Still much to unfold.

Isn’t it weird, thanks to the EBU, the focus now seems to be on the staging, and it was originally the focus was on a song contest and was for many of the 59 years. The artists just turned up and sang the song. Now the EBU want “a spectacular TV show” the staging has taken over and the juries have to even give consideration to that in their scoring. I wonder what happened to originality of the song, the composition, the music, the lyrics and the vocals? That used to be the main focus. Last year really emphasised how… Read more »

@ Well Eugene.. 🙂
I do not have high expectations 4 your country’s entry unfortunately..
Yep they can earn how many points with their performance but i have my serious doubts if UK can finish at the left side of the scoreboard of the final in Vienna..
My prediction is a top17~25 result..

P.S. { Now i see your face buddy… 🙂 Just lovely.. 🙂 }

Alex needs to bring up his self confidence or at least portray the facial expressions so he doesn’t look so nervous but they both actually sound vocally good on stage. I’m disappointed the BBC put more than 6 people on stage, this was a key time they could practice what it would be like in Vienna and take in the audience reaction. I hope they really work more on costume and dresses this year, last year Molly’s dress was awful and she was wearing some shoes she wore at a press conference a few days prior, it’s not like the… Read more »

Ehhh, without the ambience of the videoclip it is not the same, unfortunately:( Here is less power, fun and a sense of humour. They should give more from themselves. They seem like they don’t care:/ I really like this song. I’ve been a huge defender of it since the beginning. It is a great guilty pleasure, however not a competitive song. Ironically, more and more people have started to like it due to this performance. Me on the contrary.

The EBU should change the rules and allow (at least) 8 people on stage… Not only because of dancing, but often strong entries sounded weak with a limited number of backing vocals. Only 6 people on such a big and high-tech stage doesn’t make any sense to me.

This song is actually fine, but it looks fantasic on video with so many dancers around. With only 4 additional people (beside singers) stage will simply “eat” their performance if they don’t get some good ideas on how to create a good performance it may suffer.

I love the ’20s sound and I still think this is much, much better than the UK’s effort last year.

Vocally they are both right on point. However this can never work if they’re just standing there in front of their mikes singing with two couples dancing around them. They both need to be part of the performance, period costumes, charleston dancing, the whole package.

You say that the BBC put in a lot of effort, but then admit that it was not televised. I would say that the second point negates the first. We’re a month away from the show and our Eurovision entry still hasn’t been shown on network TV in our own country. Who told Alex it was a good idea to stand around with his hands in his pockets ?

Their voices live are pretty good, but the lyrics are so awful it isn’t even funny. I understand they were probably trying to rhyme most of the lyrics, but when it comes to rhyming and you delve into the rap world full of nonsense rhymes….. “plasma…hey Nicki, hey Nicki…asthma” ring a bell? From Nicki Minaj’s nonsense song Roman’s Revenge.

Alex

These two are both great singers. It’s clear that Alex isn’t used to performing this kind of song – for the most part he’s stiff as a board – but his vocals are still on point. Bianca’s voice is surprisingly quite nice, nicer than showed in the studio recording. That said, the UK had better get the staging just right (Alex probably needs to show a bit more enthusiasm), not too cheesy but not too held back. I feel like this song isn’t the type that people will necessarily get into unless the visuals enhance the enjoyment.

You say the UK fans, and the crowd enjoyed it? Weird, from where I was stood in the crowd, all but one UK fan had their heads in their hands, or just stood very still mourning our eurovision chances! Compare this to Edurne’s live performance, seriously.

I’m going to enjoy eurovision more than ever this year, because I can enjoy it for what it is, a SONG contest, without bmy patriotism getting in the way! So many usually terrible countries are sending amazing songs this year, and I can’t wait to cheer them on 🙂
