Edurne has been one of the most talked about stars of Eurovision 2015 ever since she was revealed by RTVE as the Spanish act at the start of the year. The Spanish songstress has played seriously hard to get and teased us every step of the way to Vienna. First she teased her crazy beautiful music video, then she shone in live performances and then she revealed she was bringing a hella hunky backing dancer with her to Vienna. wiwibloggs caught up with Edurne, for an exclusive interview, to get to know her and her sweeping ballad ‘Amanecer‘ a little better. If we were girl-crushing before, we’re girl-loving now…

Spain, Edurne, 8Hi Edurne, thank you so much for the interview!

You’re welcome, it’s a pleasure!

Firstly, you are one of the most hyped acts this year and you’ve done a great job of promoting your song ‘Amanecer’. How big of an opportunity is Eurovision for you?

For me Eurovision is one of the best challenges in my life, and this is a good way to show the whole of Europe my music.

You previously worked on the TV show Toda va bien. Is it different being the performer rather than the presenter?

Yes it’s so different, but you are in front of the public, so you have to do your work well! I like both of them so I would like to combine them.

A number of Spanish stars got their big break on Operacion Triunfo. How do you think that competition compares to Eurovision?

I think it’s so similar, the only difference is that you don’t have so much time to prepare the performance, only one week haha, but the competition is kind of similar.

Edurne postcardSpanish stars like Ruth Lorenzo and Pastora Soler have been very supportive of you and ‘Amanecer’. Does that boost your confidence or add pressure?

Of course it gave me a lot more confidence. I was talking to them and they both told me, enjoy it a lot because it is a wonderful experience.

Your song ‘Soñar’ appears in Disney’s “Cinderella”. How did you feel recording a version of such a classic Disney song?

Wow that was an amazing experience. I’m a big fan of all the movies of Disney, and I always wanted to be part of a soundtrack of it. Dreams will come true!

Was 2015 the first year you considered participating at Eurovision for Spain?

Being an artist I always liked seeing Eurovision, and always thought of being there, but I didn’t find the moment and, more important, the song. Now I’m so happy, ’cause I found the moment and a great song.

You worked with Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson, Peter Bostrom and Thomas G:Son on ‘Amanecer’. How did you come to work together on the song and why did you want to make your Eurovision entry with them?

Actually I was listening to songs for my new album, that I’m recording right now, and suddenly I heard “Amanecer”, and immediately I fell in love. I could imagine myself on stage at Eurovision.

Your song is one of the few not performed in English. How important is it to you that you sing in Spanish?

I heard the song in Spanish and that way was how I fell in love. I think the idiom is not the most important thing, the important thing is that the song goes through the heart of all Europe, that’s what I want to happen in Vienna.

We love your video for ‘Amanecer’ – especially the fierce Hellenic warrior look and the tiger. What is the message behind the video?

The video reflects overcoming your fears. There are metaphorical things like the tiger and the volcano which reflect the strength to be drawn in adversity and when experiencing fear in life.

Will the video influence the staging in Vienna?

It need not. We’re working on the staging in Vienna. For me the most important thing is the interpretation of the song, and that everybody understands what I’m singing, even though they may not understand Spanish.

Pastora said she would be happy with Top 10 in 2012 and Ruth said she was going for victory in 2014. What result are you aiming for in Vienna?

Of course I would like to be the winner. Everyone who goes to a competitions wants to win, that’s the truth, but with a great position I will be happy. Spain last won the festival 47 years ago, so I would like next year to celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest in Spain, it would be amazing!

Lastly – each year we run Eurovision’s Next Top Model on our site and you’re currently in the Top 5! Do you have a message for all your fans at wiwibloggs.com?

Really??? Wooow thank you so much! I feel better right know hahaha. Seriously, thank you so much for your love and for supporting me. I’m so happy to be part of this amazing experience! Hope you like Amanecer, and will enjoy in Vienna singing with me Ieieeeeeeoooo. See you soon and thanks thanks thanks!

Edurne will sing ‘Amanecer’ live during the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 on May 23 in Vienna.

I still think her song sounds like the theme song of “Fear Factor” reality show and Assassin’s Creed. Kudos to her for providing a symphonic version of her song.

Spain, Portugal, Italy, Albania and Malta for me this year .

Malta has a great song , so happy they changed their song with more orchestra

Spain has a song with a lot of emotion in it, passion

Portugal , she is a unique vocalist, maybe too alternative for eurovision

Italy, Opera is Always WOW

Albania, lovely tune, and catchy rhythm

i like more songs than just Malta but i don’t want Amber to end up like Mei Finegold last year in the semi finals, so also vote for Malta i’ll vote for Albania
