Last night Eurovision fans in Australia gathered for the first-ever Australian Eurovision Song Contest Preview Party. Our friends Down Under listened to the acts and cast their votes, giving us an early indicator of how Australia may vote at the actual contest.

As you can see below, Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw narrowly edge Serbia’s Bojana Stamenov for the win. Italy’s Il Volo, Norway’s Morland & Debrah Scarlett and Israel’s Nadav Guedj rounded out the Top 5.

Given the strong UK-Australia connections, it’s not surprising that the UK’s Electro Velvet came sixth. Australia’s own Guy Sebastian could only muster eighth place at home. In the battle of the Warriors, Georgia’s Nina Sublatti won, coming 15th, way ahead of Malta’s Amber who finished 30th. Ireland’s Molly Sterling, San Marino’s Anita & Michele, and Switzerland’s Mélanie René finished in the bottom three.

Really surprised at Ireland’s result, really thought our Aussie neighbors would rank us higher, okay many people might find the song boring or whatever but it certainly isn’t the worst. Dont know why Ireland is always forgotten about, especially when we have a quality entry this year….Ireland is becoming non-existent and forgotten about really.

I should also say that songs were played in alphabetical order on the night.

Hi all I was the organiser of the event which was put on as part of arrangements of our Eurovision facebook group – Australian Eurovision Fanclub. It’s not an official club, but rather a tool for social networking of fans located here with over 700 members, separate to any OGAE etc. The event was held in Melbourne and had more than 100 in attendance. We received 72 votes on the night and the results are above. The Serbian result was a surprise but it clearly captured a lot of people’s attention. People really cheered for it, it received the same… Read more »

@ Oh thank you Eugene 4 letting us know wiwi buddy.. Really interesting the fact that Australia when is currently considered the 3rd hot favorite to win among the bookies finished just 8th on the voting of Australians alone.. That says enough for such overrated song like that.. And in OGAE voting is currently 4th with not having real chance of winning the OGAE voting…At the best scenario it will finish 4th & on less good 5th-6th.. So it is pretty clear that the song itself is NOT winning material… I have it as 35th /40 on my own top… Read more »

As ZoboCamel mentioned, polls at parties are not really representitive. They’re just small indicators and can be completely wrong interpreted when used as a prognose

Very nice…. but Really much to not believe this. I dont have anything against Serbia but come on ,their entry this year doesn’t fits for 2nd place, hope they even pass to final, but we have Spain Italy Estonia Albania ,which one of these countries would be perfectly 2nd, and Spain as Winner. My top : 1 Spain,2 Estonia ,3 Albania, 4 Italy, 5 Sweden. Peaces to the World

Just thought I’d note a bit of context here, as I was at the party last night. Serbia was one of the last songs to be played, and by that point most people had downed a few drinks and were dancing, so the environment was perfect for a cheesy dance song to steal some votes. The same fan group has another (admittedly smaller) poll going on their Facebook page, where Serbia is in equal third last, with one point (while first-place Sweden sits on 74). Based on that, I’m pretty sure that the environment of the party itself played a… Read more »

Tror inte alls att Australien har vinsten. Tror och hoppas att dom inte vinner. Tror att det kommer att stå mellan Sverige och Estland, och Sverige vinner.

Good top 5 but I’d swap Serbia with Albania (but that’s just by personal opinion). I don’t think this would be the real result though. Australia already has the win and are scheming with Germany.
