The current odds for Montenegro’s Knez to qualify from semi-final 2 of Eurovision 2015 don’t look good. The bookies have him down as 14th most likely out of the 17 acts to make it. Not to sound Shakespearean, but fie on them! FIE ON THEM!

I’m totally excited about having Podgorica in the house this year. Knez’s “Adio” is a major step forward for the artist personally and for Montenegro at Eurovision. Eurovision veteran Zeljko Joksimovic has once again worked his magic as a composer, lacing “Adio” with stirring folk elements. It has a strong, emotional melody, and violins add so much atmosphere. It’s really stirring.

For a lot of folks, hearing Knez live really made them understand what I’m talking about. Knez is a seasoned performer and his voice works so well with the melody. The overall package is pure, melancholic, and strong. Near the end it’s rather uplifting. And just look how he spins!

Judging from the recent voting records at Eurovision, Balkan power ballads do rather well. Montenegro’s effort this year will not be an exception. With elements pulled from Zeljko Joksimovic and Regina, this is likely to be Montenegro’s second consecutive trip to the Grand Final. In my mind it should do even better than last year’s effort from Sergej.

What do you think? Are you feeling it as much as I am? Let us know in the comments box below.

“ADIO” lyrics

Nebo mi te donijelo
Nebo mi te uzelo
Još me boli što je boljelo
Dani su mi zidovi
No?i su mi okovi
Još ti služim, moja ljubavi

Još te ne dam maglama sa planina
Još te ne dam vodama iz dubina
A ti kažeš pusti me, živ mi bio
Zaboravu predaj me, sad adio

A ti kažeš pusti me, živ mi bio
Zaboravu predaj me, sad adio

Na,na,naj,na na….

Još te ne dam maglama sa planina
Još te ne dam vodama iz dubina
A ti kažeš pusti me, živ mi bio
Zaboravu predaj me, sad adio

“GOODBYE” English translation

The sky brought you to me,
The sky took you from me,
Still hurts me what used to hurt.
My days are the walls
My nights are the shackles
I’m still serving you, my love.

I still don’t give you to the mists of the mountains,
I still don’t give you to the depths of the water.
And you ask me to let you go, long live
To sink you into oblivion and say goodbye.

Rosemary has blossomed, white lily has bent,
Everything smells like sorrow.
I try to forget, not to think of you,
But my heart is still pining for you.

I still don’t give you to the mists of the mountains,
I still don’t give you to the depths of the water.
And you ask me to let you go, long live
To sink you into oblivion and say goodbye.

A,a,a….

I still don’t give you to the mists of the mountains,
I still don’t give you to the depths of the water.
And you ask me to let you go, forever
To sink you into oblivion and say goodbye.

I agree with others who wrote that Adio has grown on them. For me, it is still growing too.
I would like to see Knez go to the final. If I had my wish the qualifying countries would be:
1 Azerbaijan
2 Slovenia
3 Israel
4 Ireland
5 Czech Republic
6 Montenegro
7 Cyprus
8 Lithuania
9 Latvia
10 Switzerland

I know I won’t get my way. Sweden & Norway will qualify.

I’m with you Mario, Ranting Ruby, and co. I’ll be voting for Knez (amongst others) from Australia in SF2, and then hopefully in the final as well. Adio is now my third favourite out of all 40 songs (after Norway and Estonia), and I even went to the Australian preview party last Saturday dressed up as Knez (having grown a Knez beard especially for the occasion!). If he makes it through, it may be at the expense of Latvia or Malta. A lot will hang on the performance, including the choreography of the backing vocalists, but I think (and pray)… Read more »

This song isn’t bad, but at the semi final i’m afraid alot of people won’t remember this song :/

6/10

However i think this won’t qualify, but i wouldn’t mind if it did. No hate, no love.

Go Knez! LOVE this one! REALLY hope it qualifies!! I wish more people would enjoy songs in a LOTE (Language Other Than English), even when you can’t understand it – for me it just adds mystery and class and makes the melody even more poignant. Zeljko Joksimovic’s magic works again …

When I first reviewed this song, I was a little harsh. As others have said, it is a grower. One of the things from the original video that bothered me was how miserable and serious Knez was. Having seen him perform the song live, he is extremely charming and likeable on the stage, in an almost Dino Merlin way.
For me, he is a definite qualifier and Montenegro should do better than they did last year.

If Sergej could defy the bookies last year, Knez can this year. He ranked top-10 in both of my last 2 observations, and he is likely to stay there in my final observation. Videos can also help or hurt an entry, and we got a fistful of Montenegrin scenery in last year’s and this year’s. I think the kid in last year’s video helped Sergej qualify, and I think the background vocalists in Knez’ video will push him to Saturday’s final. The song alone is a qualifier for me.

Montenegro is a grower for me. At first I didn’t like this, but now, especially after seeing him live, I’m loving it! And I’m also loving that this is the only Balkan flavoured song this year, Balkan songs are a must in this contest!

I would kill for him to qualify, his song is in my overall top 10 (an unpopular opinion, I know). I think he definitely has what it takes, his live performance is great, and he could pull a surprise like Segej did last year.

I want him to qualify because he is singing in his own language but then again I do want CZ, Ireland, and Latvia to qualify as well and I’m not sure he’ll slip in

He won’t make it. Slovenia’s the only ally Montenegro can rely on, and with him performing so early in the night, he’ll be forgotten. Even if Slovenia and Montenegro share 12pts each, the same thing happened with Albania and Montenegro in SF1 in 2014. Montenegro will flop, mark my words.

The one thing which might go against this song is its abnormally long intro—I didn’t realise the song goes for 30 seconds before we hear Knez start… I love the poetic lyrics, but whether or not he’ll qualify isn’t really determined. I’d rather see him than Poland, at least.

Thia kind of Balkan aong is really tired! Bring aomething new! A non-qualifier for me!

Unfortunately I can’t vote in the second semi, but I am really rooting for Portugal!

@ Oostenrijk
Oh ok buddy…I really had the idea that its not developed enough country & still developing kinda poor…Not really poor but you know what i mean..
All these ex yugoslavian balcan countries still suffer from the post communistic era & they still have long road ahead to become truly developed countries like Denmark,Sweden,Norway 4 example..
This is what i mean mainly..

It’ll probably qualify with a similar score to last year in the semi. Then top 20 in the final.

Montenegro not a developed country???

It’s the Balkan treasure, it’s amazing, beautiful and well developed. I’ve been there four years ago and know what I am talking about.

@ Well Podgorica although not that big town {town’s population is 185.000 that consists the 35% of Montenegro’s 620.000 overall population} does have an indoor hall with even few thousands of seats.. Well the number of seats can get expanded to a larger capacity i guess.. Im sure that Montenegro although being very small country with population less than a million residents & with mainly being not developed country yet has great potentials…{Well Iceland has only 400.000 residents & Cyprus 700.000} These countries like Montenegro,Moldova,Belarus,Bosnia etc are rising like a phoenix & they will developing fast to western proggressive countries..… Read more »

This year Montenegro not only can qualify to the final with qualifying two years in row back to back but to beat as well the all time best place 4 Montenegro that is the 19th that was succeeded by SerGay… 4 Knez to finish higher than 19th is possible scenario to happen.. 🙂

In the second semi-final there are only two countries singing in their own language: Montenegro and Portugal. I wish i could vote for them.. but I can only vote in the first one…Montenegro, Portugal and Ireland to the final!!! Please, vote for these 3.

I like the song, its very nice, but it is also very typical of Zelijko Joksimovic, I have heard it a thousand times before. Im sure it will qualify though but I am also pretty sure that it will remain on the right hand side of the scoreboard at the final. But yeah, its not a bad attempt by Montengro.
My predicted semi 2 qualifiers are:
Sweden
Norway
Iceland
Azerbaijan
Slovenia
Ireland
Poland
Montenegro
Latvia
Lithuania

@ Oh yes Mario.. 🙂 I hope that Montenegro will beat the bookies’ odds & manage to qualify to the final.. *Adio* is a beautiful song { although its sad & melancholic} & deserves to get the ticket 4 the grand final.. It has grown on me & now i have it 6th on the SF & in my top15 overall.. {The same about Czech’s really good song that also deserves to qualify…This song has grown on me as well..} Here is my own personal top ranking on the 2nd SF 1) MALTA ~ 7 /10 ~ 16 points ~… Read more »

They might make it, but I really hope they don’t. I have Zeljko in my Unholy Trinity of Eurovision Nemeses (along with Stefan Örn and Eric Saade), and I have the same complaints about this song as I do about his other compositions: they’re all exactly the same, they all plod along, and every aspect leaves me lukewarm. The one thing I like about this entry is Knez’s absolutely stunning vocal performance, which I was not expecting from Knez’s earlier work that I explored back when he was announced.

The bookies also give Cyprus a 66% to qualify for the final which is way way off in my opinion. Considering Montenegro got 7th place with a similar style song last year in a much weaker semi final I would say they’d have to battle for the last 2-3 qualifying spots this year if they are to get through. With 5 countries definitely in (Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Iceland) and 3 big outsiders (San Marino, Portugal, Czech Republic) that leaves 9 countries fighting for 5 spots it’s gonna be really close. Personally I think Cyprus will stay out pretty… Read more »

I really don’t think it will qualify and end up 13th or 14th. I think the second semi-final will turn out like this:
1. Sweden
2. Azerbaijan
3. Slovenia
4. Norway
5. Iceland
6. Latvia
7. Malta
8. Israel
9. Poland
10/11/12. Lithuania/Ireland/Switzerland
13. Montenegro
14. Czech Republic
15. Portugal
16. Cyprus
17. San Marino

6 malta
7 slovenia
8 lithuania
9 poland
