Padraig: The biggest let down of the day? For weeks now Norway has been suggested as a potential dark horse. But after today, I seriously doubt we’ll be heading to Oslo any time soon. As with practically all the previous rehearsals, the vocals are fine. Alas, the staging is just a damp squib. The LED screen is virtually unused, save for some orange and white light. The costumes are also lacking. All white ensembles brought victory to Johnny Logan and El & Nikki, however, for a song as dark as this they seem inappropriate. There’s definitely something missing, whether it’s smoke, pyro or both.

I don’t think we’ve seen the final version of their staging. But let’s not forget the top 3 last year all went very easy on the special effects. No pyrotechnics and minimal LED effects (maybe except for Austria, but even they did cover the LED floor in fog)

I won’t comment upon the staging, as this is not the real problem in my opinion. What I do find concerning is the fact that, though the song is great, when it comes to vocals I feel that something is not right.

Still growing on me – dark horse material but I feel like Morland is pulling most of the weight. Very excited to see the whole thing – I think the simplicity works fine here.

Staging….? LED…? Costume..? Pyro..? Smoke..? I thought it was the Song Contest? Not On Stage Contest?
A winner for me!

If you have a dark song, go all the way and make your outfits black with dark lighting. The staging doesn’t match the song at all, if you had the sound off, you’d think they were singing a happy love song.

Loving the outfits, specially hers, take some notes Trijntje. There’s nothing wrong with minimalism, too many graffics would ruin a song like this, but I’m missing the choreography and the darkness from NMGP

If it was just a song contest the studio versions would be used more but we sit and watch so it’s performance based topi am utterly gutted that this has not captured some of the feeling from the video.

Ooooh so now a song people find great depend on good staging? I thought a song should not depend on a good staging?? That’s what I’ve been told. P**e

Great song. Bland staging. Let’s hope Morland and Debrah and team are reading these comments before the next rehearsal. There are lots of songs in recent years that have been very different after first rehearsal through to semi final. Let’s hope..

Yikes. Looks like the staging from Eurovision in Concert. There must be an issue with the graphics or something, I can’t accept this otherwise. I love me some minimalism, but not like this.

Vocally they’re going to nails this I’m sure, but this isn’t a radio show. Please fix this asap, Norway.

Most of the artists still have to show us something more, a bit more hapiness & perhaps some more fun. ESC is not only a competition it’s also ENTERTAINMENT.
It’s party time therefore they should enjoy themeselves during the rehearsals.

Maybe NRK doesn’t want to host the show again next year and is trying to low down their chances, which are huge with such a magnificent song. Can’t find other explanation since the Melodi Grand Prix staging was just perfect.

Ok, first things first. This dress is fantastic, the best we have seen so far. His outfit is also dapper but I would prefer if the jacket wasn’t white as well. From the photos I’ve seen they are bathed in very noir-ish lighting which actually fits the mood of the song perfectly. Nothing to say about the background as it is blank really. So there’s not much to judge about the success of this entry at this stage – not until we see the final camera work live on tv. Her vocals don’t sound that good in this little snippet… Read more »

The staging at the country final took a fantastic song and blew it out of the stratosphere. It was so powerful in it’s simplicity that I couldn’t wait to see what they would do in Vienna. Based on what little I could see in this clip, I am stunned that they just stood up and sang it. This has to be a head fake. It cannot be what we see next week or it will be THE disappointment of the contest.

I was thinking today how much this reminded me of Running Scared from 2011. A ballad between a boy and a girl, the female singer can’t really sing that well live (though miiiiiles better than Nikki), and also one of the favorites in a year where anyone can win. Now to add to that, they got that white-ish background to fit their song. I gotta say it is a letdown though, they seem so still and bland. If they at least had the same staging as they did during MGP, then it’d be a lot better. But it’ll qualify no… Read more »

Kind of disappointing for Norway if I’m totally honest, they are my winners this year. They could have made much more use of the stage, although, maybe there will be a pyrotechnic shower at the climax, which wont be used until the second rehearsal. Regardless, Im sure they will still qualify because the song is popular and they have Sweden in their semi, who usually vote for them.
