Perhaps the most controversial moment in the build-up to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest was the announcement of Australia’s first ever participation. The Austrian broadcaster, ORF, have taken their tagline ‘Building Brides’ to a whole new level, by inviting Australia to have a one-off participation. Could you imagine a bridge connecting Vienna to Sydney? It would certainly put the Øresund to shame…

Upon the announcement of Australia’s participation, it was also revealed that Australia would have the opportunity to vote in both semi finals as well as the grand final, and we have just learned who will announce the points for the land down under! It’s none other than Miss Lee Lin Chin!

INTRODUCING LEE LIN CHIN!

Indonesian-born Lee Lin Chin is a well-known SBS newsreader and, gurl, does she pack a lot of sass! Lee Lin Chin reports daily for the SBS World News and has an admirable vocabulary and will have no issues pronouncing country names (sorry Linda Woodruff!).

Guy Sebastian will represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on the 23rd of May with the song ‘Tonight Again’. Check out our interview with Guy Sebastian on the red carpet of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 Opening Ceremony below!

Why would the bridge go to Sydney? Oh that’s right, Sydney thinks they are Australia. Here’s the news from Lee Lin Chin, “There is more to Australia than Sydney”.

You’re in Sydney, aren’t you, Josh?

OH MY GOD YES
I was hoping SBS would do this since for they’ve been marketing Lee Lin Chin as the ‘sassy old asian lady that you don’t wanna mess with’ for ages now. She’s supposed to come across as trying too hard to be funny/sassy, which is what makes her funny in the first place.
That humour may be lost on European audiences, but Australians love it, I hope that her announcement means she’ll be showing a bit of that persona instead of the standard newsreader gig she’s originally known for.
