Following the results of the Eurovision 2015 grand final, the EBU have now released the results of the first and second semi finals. The top to finishers in the final — Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw and Russia’s Polina Gagarina — swept aside the competition before them in their respective semis.

Polina cleared runner-up Loic Nottet from Belgium by almost forty points and Måns Zelmerlöw broke records with 217 points, beating the records set by Norway’s Alexander Rybak and fellow Swede Loreen during their own semi-final hauls from 2009 and 2012.

Latvia’s Aminata Savadogo — she of other-worldly Burkino Faso realness fame — placed second in Semi-Final 2, the country’s best result ever in a semi-final ever. Israel’s Nadav Guedj placed third, also giving Israel its best result in a semi-final.

Pre-contest favourites Belgium and Estonia placed strongly, with Loic giving Belgium its best result since Tom Dice won his semi-final in 2010 and Stig and Elina equalling Urban Symphony’s third place in 2009.

The margin between qualifiers in tenth and eleventh was ruul wide, with Albania’s Elhaida Dani and Azerbaijan’s Elnur Huseynov clear by twenty-one and ten points respectively.

Finland’s PKN placed last in their semi-final and have added to Finland’s record of last place finishes. Switzerland’s Mélanie René finished an unfortunate last in semi final 2 with just 4 points — the least of anyone in the semi-finals #soemosh.

Malta’s Amber was the highest scoring non-qualifier with 43 points.

“I am from Serbia and i just want to ask: Was our song that bad? I see that juries ranked us 24th” No, juries ranked it 16th, not 24th. Also, people who were there at the finals said Serbia got the biggest applause of all. It was said of the semi-final as well – with someone saying it got the biggest applause by far and that how it came across on TV was no where near how it was. These were non-Serbs saying that. Many of them were stumped that Serbia didn’t get more points based on the audience reaction… Read more »

I am from Serbia and i just want to ask: Was our song that bad? I see that juries ranked us 24th in the final and that we barely made it to the final. Luckily, televoting saved us so we got 10 th place but we all hoped for 5 th or 6 th place because of predictions. We knew that either Sweden or Russia would win but we tought we have sent a great song too, but it seems that isn’t a thing. What’s your opinion on this?

Switzerland placed last in their semi-final? Yikes! Mélanie has a terrific voice! How should she finish last in her semi-final? 🙁

For Ireland not even getting into the final they are 16th in the iTunes Charts. Better than most.

The whole voting system is tricky. Before the juries the voting was often so predictable of who countries would award points to. But now it’s like the jury have too much power and a few people can completely over rule the publics vote. I think the juries should still be there but perhaps a 30% jury 70% public split of vote.

At first I did like the UK’s entry when it was first released but when you compare it to other songs in the final, there is no competition. I’m kind of glad that they only finished 24th, this better be a wake up call to the BBC as they really need to start taking the competition more seriously. It’s times like this when I wish Scotland could compete in Eurovision on its own!

Estonia was 15th in Albania’s jury ranking, 13th in Armenia’s, 10th in Australia’s, 9th in Belgium’s, 9th in Denmark’s, 13th in F.Y.R. Macedonia, 9th in Greece’s, 14th in Moldova’s, 11th in Romania’s, 13th in Serbia’s…
Just ridiculous…

@ M16
Yeah, Belgium was my favourite! But Sweden have less people than Belgium! And the countries which are much bigger, like Spain, UK, Germany are very low on the scoreboard. Latvia even won in 2002. Estonia also. Iceland was two times very close. So there is no connection between these two factors.

I must admit, even though the juries have saved my own country Sweden the last three years (especially this year) they must change it. They should either have more members in the jury, or combine the votes in another way. Italy was literary robbed from winning thanks to 200 people, compared to all the viewers at home, and that’s not right. Personal I’m not a fan of Grande Amore, but they deserved to win.

Really proud of Loic. He did such a great job. Part of me wishes he made top 3, but I’m already so amazed that we, as little Belgium, managed to beat so many other, bigger countries. Same thing counts for Latvia.

Loic brought Belgium its highest score since 2003, when Urban Trad placed second. Also really amazed that we got 12 pts from Hungary.

@Calum Macleod – that is called a diaspora vote. We here in Latvia expected nothing less that 12 points from Ireland. And at the same time realizing how lame this is. I guess the only way you can change it is to pick up the phone and vote yourself. And get your grandmother to vote too 🙂

Azerbaijan scored the lowest of all with its 53 points. Nearly NQ. Pity it didn’t happen. They should learn one lesson- money mean nothing and you can’t buy everything you want. But I think they won’t. They are hopeless imp.
Löic wrote his own song and ended so high. Azeri payed at least 100k$ to be almost eliminated. Funny.

Has anyone ever wondered why Lithuania, Poland and Latvia have usually at least been in the top 3 of Ireland’s televoting is past semi-finals and finals? (This goes for the UK giving big points to Lithuania and Latvia in the past as well.)

Semi final 1 results were great! However the semi 2 was full of bull****. Montenegro, Cyprus and Lithuania in the final instead of Malta, Ireland and Chez republic…

Anyone notice that on the score board all last places were for the big 5….
27th Austria 26th Germany 25th France 24th United Kingdom and a few spots higher is Spain… Only Italy knew how to keep standing between all the mess. Australia just did well cause its the guest….

First off, congratulations Sweden! I knew a top result was headed for you. This year was one of the best for me simply because the eight acts that I wanted to get through to the final got through. But seeing these split results, I gotta say I am really worried for Azerbaijan now. Elnur had a stellar number but the performances left something to be desired. I can sorta understand how it didn’t get a better placing but the fact that it got overtaken by entries like Cyprus, Poland and Lithuania scares me. Likewise for Albania but more understandable how… Read more »

Glad to see Cyprus came 6th in the semi with no friends and double the points that the 11th Malta got. It was a clear qualification. Where are the bad losers from Malta who trolled every post and youtube video about Cyprus stealing their place in the final?. Apparently it was their friend Azerbaijan who did it(if coming10th for them means stealing something). Also glad to see John Karayiannis was 9th with the juries last night and only 23rd with televoting

I am firstly glad that Malta is number 11 and not lower. If it wasn’t for countries voting for neighbours it probably would have gotten through. However I am surprised at Iceland! It was such a great song!! How could it have got such a low result? She deserved better! Overall…watching the Eurovision final yesterday…I am glad that my favourite won and that my second and third favourites came second and third! Well done!! Apart of course from the obvious wretched voting-for-dear-neighbours routine never stops. I was predicting the points for every country and I was 90% of the time… Read more »

I felt really bad for the non-qualifiers in semi-final 2. It was an extremely strong semi final; there were no bad songs. Most of them could have won the entire ESC in prior years.

Latvia and Belgium actually shows that Eurovision can deliver high quality music and the results highlight this quality.

Also, I know it may be hard for some to take Ireland’s, Denmark’s and Iceland’s failure to enter the final, but their songs were too much the radio version of every day life.

Very pleased with the result.

Agreed I thought Switzerland did kind of good. Honestly not surprised about Azerbaijan. I was underwhelmed at semifinal with it and even thought it might be in trouble. Also I am surprised Serbia DIDNT do better given all of the attention and reaction it got from the crowd!

As for Czech Rep, so sad and hope they stay. For me they would have qualified and I think I speak for everyone that we loved Marta and Vaclav and they have definitely brought their country back and rolling. Next year ever better Ceska! 😀

And here are the total points based on televoting alone (because who needs sleep right?): Sweden 171 Israel 140 Poland 114 Latvia 100 Norway 90 Lithuania 88 Cyprus 78 Slovenia 70 Montenegro 48 Czech Republic 46 Azerbaijan 30 Portugal 17 Iceland 16 Malta 15 San Marino 11 Ireland 5 Switzerland 5 This makes me wonder how rankings would change based on a system of say 16, 14, 12, 10 – 1 points, instead of 12, 10, 8, 7 – 1, to spread the votes out to lower placing countries. Montenegro, San Marino and Azerbaijan did not use televoting, so I’m… Read more »

Right so I just sorted through the excel spreadsheet for semi final two, and based on jury votes alone this is how it would’ve ended up:
Sweden 208
Latvia 155
Norway 146
Israel 114
Ireland 84
Malta 84
Slovenia 84
Cyprus 76
Azerbaijan 67
Lithuania 52
Montenegro 47
Czech Republic 34
Portugal 23
Iceland 15
Switzerland 15
Poland 10
San Marino 6

(Keep in mind it’s late, I may have made a few errors)

Televoting order from the countries I counted so far in semi 2:

1. Montenegro ( 48 points )
2. Czech Republic ( 46 Points )
3. Azerbaijan ( 30 Points )
=4. Iceland ( 16 Points )
=4. Portugal ( 16 Points )
6. Malta ( 15 Points )
7. San Marino ( 11 Points ( 10 coming from Italy ) )
=8. Switzerland ( 5 Points )
=8. Ireland ( 5 Points )

@Escire: The U.K televote was the only one that gave Ireland any points and my mistake, that’s 5 points making it tied with Switzerland for televote last place.

I added up the televote score ( No Juries ) and according to televoters the Czeck received more points than even Azerbaijan and should have been in the finals. Lowest country in semi final voting was Ireland with only 4 Points, Switzerland got 5 points with televoters.
