While we were all in Vienna, Cezar “The Voice” Ouatu, the popular countertenor who represented Romania with “It’s My Life” at Eurovision in 2013, won the Romanian version of the show “Your Face Sounds Familiar” (Te cunosc de undeva). During the season finale, the 35-year old pop-opera singer also proposed to his on-and-off girlfriend, who said yes. Double win for Cezar, y’all!
Since his successful stint as a guest on the show last year, Antena 1 producers decided to include Cezar in the main cast. And two weeks ago, the bargain paid off, when Cezar was crowned winner in the season finale.
Throughout the season, he won several episodes. Naturally, the most successful and sometimes hilarious disguises were when he impersonated women, which Cezar was always happy to do.
And he wasn’t past putting on black paint on his face, a practice which, while controversial in many parts of the world like the United States, seems to be perfectly acceptable in many parts of Europe. Even Ruth Lorenzo did it!
He also impersonated his ex-girlfriend, internationally famous soprano Angela Gheorghiu. That must have been a fun evening for her!
Speaking of girlfriends, Cezar proposed to Andreea Petria during the season finale, and she said yes. The 31-year old flight attendant has been his one-and-off girlfriend for nine years. Their relationship was on a hiatus while Cezar dated Angela Gheorghiu, but now they’re back together and they are about to tie the knot. Cezar has said recently that he would get married by 35 because he wants to have kids, and he’s really doing it now.
Later on in the show, Cezar was crowned winner of the season and received a 15,000-Euro prize. He donated all the prize money to a poor family whose house was burnt to the ground in a fire. Afterwards, the male host kneeled in front of Cezar and asked him to come back for the next season. The countertenor gladly accepted, so the fun doesn’t here for Romanian audiences.
And if you are wondering why he was dressed like Michael Jackson, it’s because his last impersonation on the show was of the King of Pop:
Cezar “The Voice” Ouatu was one of the highlights of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, where his song “It’s My Life”, his vampire-inspired staging and his incredible vocals brought him to the world’s attention. Romania finished 13th on the Grand Final scoreboard that year, but Cezar scored one of the most memorable moments in Eurovision history and gained a place in many Eurofans’ hearts.
