We might only see a few seconds of the Eurovision spokespeople from each country as they deliver their points, but it turns out there’s a lot more going on in front of green screens at television studios across Europe (and Australia). In this video you can see what the various spokespeople got up to before going live, from hair preening to selfies to beatboxing.
There’s a lot of rehearsing lines (“And 12 points go to…”), but there’s also plenty of time for other activities. Greek spokesperson Helena Paparizou spends a lot of time getting her hair combed and sprayed to perfection. Krista Siegfrids from Finland grabs the opportunity to make an SMS vote for Lativa, while the Latvian spokesperson Markus Riva gets a little flirty with the control room person in Austria. The observant Israeli spokesperson notes that their allocated position has changed, and the Australian crew celebrate one of Guy Sebastian’s 12 points.
And Tanja from Estonia demonstrates why she is still amazing:
Are spokespersons in Austria (host country) and only pretending to be at home or they really are at home ?
Where can I convert to a religion that lets me worship Edsilia Rombley?
Edsilia was in Trintje first dress for Eurovision.
It sounded like a tongue twister in Dutch, as in “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers” …
28:12 – 28:20… Was that a language???
Ahhh. Helena <3 <3 <3
I actually enjoyed this video very much :).
Krista is beautiful and very funny! But that woman who took forever to ‘arrange’ her hair was really annoying… And Krista’s hair actually ended up looking worse! Are people actually paid for this sort of thing?!?! (pointless and useless hairdressers I mean).
Edsilia is AMAZING, love her humour, love her voice, she’s the one you want to hang out with it! love love love, bring her back.
what a beast from georgia! she shrugged and looked stunned when they announced sweden as winner. we helped nina write her song so stop looking so surprised!
Edsilia is a riot on screen and off…”blah blah blah”
I had a blast getting to know ‘Lee-Lin-Chin-Cha-Ching from Kushing’ this year…never heard about her before, but after watching some of her Youtube spoofs and comic parodies, she must go viral beyond Australia…

I hate to say it but I think they should do away with spokespersons. They are mostly a waste of time with their ‘jokes’ and their tiresome plaudits. If the votes were both revealed and announced by a separate presenting team there would be time to go through all ten awards, which would add to the suspense. With some of the time saved we could give the acts a few seconds more on view on stage at the end of their songs.
Such awkwardness. I really liked the spokepersons this year.
Helena is such a goddess <3
