China has a reputation as the global hub of counterfeiting. According to the World Customs Organisation, three-fourths of counterfeit goods seized between 2008 to 2010 came from China. But put Gucci, Armani and Burberry to the side for a second. As this video shows, Chinese creatives have also started borrowing from Eurovision — and, more specifically, Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2013 singer Farid Mammadov and his stage director Fokas Evangelinos.

A video has surfaced on YouTube showing a performance from the Hunan TV New Year Countdown Concert, which aired last December. It features a man singing on a glass box, another man mirroring him inside that glass box, and a lady in red with a super long train. Yes, it is Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2013 performance of “Hold Me”.

Just in case you forgot the original…

Hunan TV — also known as Mango TV — is the network that is currently trying to convince the EBU to let it participate in Eurovision. You can watch our interview with China’s Head of Delegation for Eurovision below, and read more about their ambitions here.

Nope. Just nope. I bet that if they hdbeen added as a guest country, they’ll have a rip-off of another ESC entry. You did it to “Hold Me”, and don’t touch Euphoria!!!! LOL.

Another reason to dislike China to ever participate in Eurovision. First, they are invading islands owned by East and South East Asian countries and now Eurovision? Please…

Lol people really don’t like the idea of China participating. I think it would be great fun to have a guest every year. Eurovision is becoming a truly truly big thing, why not share it? As long as it’s held in Europe I’m fine with it…

You are overcrowding the final by adding Australia this year and all of that by the cost of having 2 countries in the heart of Europe to receive 0 points…. And now possibly adding China? I think we should all quit and have China, Australia and Sweden compete with 3 different songs.

@George – I know. It’s like getting chanel purse made it china…same concept. Lookwise it’s the same, material wise it’s a whole different story.

@Felix – It’s been Sweden I believe 7/9 times. My guess it’s gonna Sweden unless Azeris decide to change things up since the past two years they’ve been scoring outside of
top 10.

‘China has a reputation as the global hub of counterfeiting.’
Oh.., Azerbaijan is no exception.
Fokas Evangelinos’s idea has inspired the Chinese singer.
I wonder where the azeris are going to shop ‘their’ new ideas for the ESC 2016. The question is. Would it be Swedes or Greeks?))

Last post: if you are interested in Chinese pop culture, don’t look at the Mainland China pop music scene, it is the worst in Asia: unoriginality, banality & mediocrity. Look instead to the pop music of Taiwan & Hong Kong, which at least is more modern sounding. Mainland China has technically no music industry to speak off, and the biggest names in Chinese pop are the singers from Taiwan & HK. Letting China in ESC will be an embarassment from Asia, as the clip in this post shows. Better make Korea or Japan enter rather than China. Better yet, let… Read more »

If they want non-Europeans to join ESC, they should start with countries that have at least a connection with European culture: like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Usa, South Africa & the Latin American countries (including Brazil). I think a good idea will be for these countries to have their own semis & the top 3 can go to the finals. This would be interesting 🙂

Hello no. They should never be allowed to compete, at all cost. Their participation will be the end of Eurovision! Such copycats with no originality & taste!
