Passed — the Hungarian group that met online in 2014 — stormed into the final of A Dal last spring with their very first song “Mesmerize”. They emerged as favourites to win it all with the funky track, which merged soul and sexual tension with….a harp. Even though the jury ultimately gave them zero points, the sisters Dorottya and Fanni Nizalowski and bandmate Levente Szabó have kept on moving. Armed with a new band member Áron Farkas, they’ve just released a new video for their latest single “On the Grind” — and no, it’s not about Grindr.
Then again, it is rather steamy. As they sing: “Outside it’s hot, our drinks are cool, won’t let anything ruin our mood. …There’s no need to worry, my friends aren’t in a hurry, we’re gonna smoke until we get crowned, make love when the sun is down.”
The accompanying video is fresh and stylish — a further testament that they represent a new wave in Hungarian music. (They are Passed, not passé). Among other things they sing in a shoe store and dance while wearing digital facepaint.
If “On The Grind” isn’t for you, we’re sure you can find something passable on their EP 1919.
