To mark Independence Day, Paula Seling had the honour of performing the US national anthem at the American Embassy in Bucharest on the 2nd of July. The Romanian Eurovision star wowed the audience, which included the American ambassador and the President of Romania.
Paula did what she does best, performing “The Star Spangled Banner” with much gusto, adding her trademark long note which was also the quite literal high point of 2014’s “Miracle”. At the end of the anthem, she managed to hold a 16-second note that made headlines the next day. The Romanian president and the American ambassador (seen with his hand on his heart) seemed transfixed by Paula’s amazing vocals. Everyone who was there applauded her frenetically and her music conservatory colleague Cristian Faur, the songwriter who penned Cezar’s Eurovision song “It’s My Life” and Luminita Anghel’s “Let Me Try”, said that it was a moment worth including in the Guiness World Records book. The performance was broadcast live by Romanian TV channels and created a buzz among Paula Seling’s fans.

I’ve heard that the 4th of July parties at the American embassies worldwide tend to be awesome. I think it’s the one day of the year they don’t worry about fitting in locally and instead go all out celebrating being American.

Yeah, a 16 second note (on a full breath) isn’t anything to be writing headlines about, but that doesn’t matter. That was a REALLY nice performance of The Star Spangled Banner.
It’s always been a pet peeve of mine for the singer to showboat during our anthem, making it about themselves instead of the country they’re allegedly honoring. (Sorry, Whitney, but that’s how I feel about it.) Paula, who ain’t even American, did a great job of singing the heck out of it while still staying respectful. Thumbs way up!

Speaking as an American – that was beautiful. It would be cool to have her sing it at the Super Bowl. Although she has too much class for the NFL to pick her.

The EuroVision of 2010 that Paula of Romania took part has the #1 & #2 most watched ever videos in the channel of EuroVision that are *Satelite* & the french song *Allez Olah Ole*.. Lena’s has over 46 millions views & the french song has 37 millions views.. Really impressive that the entry of France that year became so popular among eurofans! It was summer hit song but still! I liked both of her visionary songs *Playing With Fire* in the Vision of Oslo 2010 & *Miracle* in the Vision of Copenhagen 2014.. <3
She is OK…Not dislikable or anything..
She might did not manage to be the one that would get the first maiden victory 4 Romania but she met enough success on both these times she participated in our Vision..
In Oslo she gathered 167 points in the juries when the winner Lena received just only 187 points although she came first in the juries..
Sixteen seconds for a high note sung live, you gotta give Paula some credit for that. Not all singers today can do that and would have to rely on playback vocals to give us the illusion that they too can hold a high note for sixteen straight seconds or even just ten seconds.
16 second note… Hmmmmm….. sounds great to the “bystander” but most professional singers (yes.. me included) will tell you that 16 seconds isn’t that remarkable…. fair play to Paula for “doing it live” though… it’s more than most “Superstars” of today could manage…..
