Greece is facing its worst crisis ever, but there is always room for a bit of MADness. That’s right, y’all! The annual MAD Video Music Awards recently took place in Athens, and a number of Eurovision stars performed live or accepted awards. Kalomira flew in from the States to open the show, Maria Elena Kyriakou won best new artist of 2015, and Sakis Rouvas sang his new song “Fila Me” (Kiss me). Perhaps the highlight of the glamourous show was when Eleni Foureira sang a Greek-language version of Israel’s Eurovision 2015 song “Golden Boy”.

MAD VMAS 2015: The WINNERS

Best New Artist: Maria Elena Kyriakou

Best Urban: Stavento – Helena Paparizou

[themify_box style=”blue commment shadow” ]After winning Eurovision 2005, Helena kept the momentum going. Today she has more MAD awards than any other artist in Greece![/themify_box]

Best Male Modern: Sakis Rouvas

Best Song & Best Rock: Melisses

[themify_box style=”yellow comment shadow” ]Melisses competed in the Greek national final in 2010 with “Kinezos” (Chinese). Since then they have had a string of hits including “Ena” (One).[/themify_box]

MAD Cyprus & Best Dance: Eleni Foureira

[themify_box style=”pink comment shadow” ]This sexy young thing competed at the Greek national final in 2010 as part of the act “Manos Pirovolakis, Eleni Foureira, Don’t Ask” with Kivotos tou Noe” (Noa’s Ark).[/themify_box]

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

Super sexy as always, Kalomira opened the show with her new summer hit “This Is Summer” and then sang (along with Kings) the perfectly timed “Bilionera”. These kids are thirsty for dubstep!

“Sto Theo Me Pai” (It Takes Me to God) performed by Eleni Foureira was undeniably the best moment of this year’s awards. It’s actually the Greek version of “Golden Boy“, as Nadav Guedj says in the video. The lyrics are different, though. It would be nonsense to sing about Tel Aviv in Athens!

@TOM Israel didn’t give Greece any points back in 2010, but the Hebrew cover of Opa became a big hit there.

“Why do people still lipsync in 2015?”

The same reason they did it in 1957.

Over the years dozens of wonderful Greek songs were translated into Hebrew and became big hits in Israel, nice to see an Israeli song sung in Greek.

@ Well even better then :)) hehe.. And ok i don’t really dislike you to be honest.. The only user(s?) that i truly hate here are just 2…That awful troll that is obsessed with me & harrashes me getting on my skin & the other nasty loser with the nickname *Oh Great 🙂 * But i strongly suspect that the 2nd person is another fake account of the same homophobic troll that hates me though…So possibly is just 1 person only that i can’t stand.. @ Well just try to avoid the tension without these unwanted replies & things will… Read more »

no Mario, you’re wrong, there are TWO things I like about you.

Well its pretty hard for the singers to move like crazy, dancing around & try to be on key singing at the same time..
So 4 them to lip sing using a pre-recorded version of their songs makes sense & is justifiable…I give them them a break 4 that..
Except like if its their live concert & people have buy tickets with their precious hard earned money to watch them singing with their real natural live voices..

@ Well this is just the ugly truth my ”dear” *Nott*..
At least its cool that there is something about me that you actually like..
So thank you.. :))
Now you make me to want excluding you from my black list with the unwanted users 4 me….I will just think about that & i will let you know ”dear” .. :))
Cheers 🙂

Our Greek NF this year was not bad at all…Better compared with the one of last year.. The level of the songs were good enough.. My #1 most favorite song in the bunch of the 5 was *Ela* of my hot hunk babe Barrice <3 But the part with the greek folk music on the song kinda sucked & did not fit with the main pop song…Really pity because if that lame music part was excluded then Barrice would had more chances to win & represent my country in the Vision.. He has the potentials to make it big in… Read more »

Tbh lipsyncing still takes place because if a performer makes a mistake, it can bring an entire show down. Lipsyncing brings that extra level of safety to make the show go smoothly and promotes the artist as a good singer.

Would be nice if people enjoyed the fun rather than pointing it out though, ESC stars don’t lipsync.

Back on the day these MAD Video Awards were used to be cool & glam (as dear Otna always writes 😉 hehe } but with the years sadly they lost their factor of charm & appeal.. Now i don’t even bother anymore.. And so big deal to get a greek award like that?? The videos that are well done & being not lame are not so many anyway.. Here in Greece the music that is mainstream & sells in the crowds is the so called greek heavy folk ‘laika skyladika’ that is just trashy & noisy.. Too many greek singers… Read more »

@ Lena ok so what?
I never stated that i don’t like our greek songs in ESC..
Well i really liked our greek song last year *Rise Up* actually..
And i was from the minority of the few fans that had this positive impression about our song..

Its another thing for me to be fan of our greek songs in EuroVision & whole different case to not be fan of our greek music industry in general..

Mario, you know Greece is one of my favorite countries. I am a crazy fan of Freaky Fortune and Risky kid. My friends don’t watch eurovision but they know Rise up by heart. I was very happy to see them with Aram mp3. Also I think Maria Elena has a very beautiful voice.

@Laura because they think that we are stupid and we don’t understand that this is not live even though that’s what they want us to think…. that it is live… but the stupidest thing is that they make it so obvious that it’s not

Mario
Mario

Well i don’t really follow our greek music & artists anymore…Too many of them are just fake & wannabe attention seekers without real talent….I just don’t want to bother wasting my time with being their fan..
The singers that are truly worthy of my attention & energy are not that many sadly..

So just don’t get me started about them because i will become too mean.. 😛
