Germany’s Ann Sophie and Austria’s The Makemakes have a lot more in common that winding up with nil points at Eurovision 2015. As Ann Sophie showed us at the recent Eurovision Weekend Berlin, she can slay The Makemakes’ song “I Am Yours” just as well as they can! wiwiblogger Maxim filmed Anne Sophie at the event and we were blown away. Some of our YouTube viewers were too. Adrian writes that “‘I Am Yours’ seems to suit Ann Sophie’s voice better than ‘Black Smoke’ does…”. Azaad agrees”: “Maybe if they swapped songs, they could’ve done really well.”

What do you think? Did Ann Sophie just school the Makemakes on their own song? Ladies on top, y’all!

And this is why I love Ann Sophie. Plus, she was very professional after Eurovision (unlike Edurne)

Very good rendition. I almost wish she had tried this song in a higher key to suit her voice. A shame it is, though, about the circumstances that led to her nul-point outcome. It seems to me that, once Andreas turned down the invitation to ESC 2015 and gave his ticket to Ann, Germany, already furious with Andreas’ withdrawal, lost the will to even support the contender they WERE sending; and in turn, Europe gave up on Germany. Of course, you know the bookies laid all their bets on Fahrenhaidt and their song “Frozen Silence” to qualify. Bookies unfortunately ranked… Read more »

Ann Sophie is the queen! I hope she gives another try at Eurovision next year.
If Sanna Nielsen’s and Valentina Monetta’s history have taught anything, it’s that if you don’t succeed at first, you try again, and again, and again.

But both Germany and Austria took their nul points very well, a lesson that the Head of Delegation for France really needs to learn.

I think Austria didn’t deserve the 0 points! They have a good song, good voice and a good performance! They deserved a Top 15 place but not the 26th! I think we deserved the last place with 0 points…in Germany the most of the people didn’t want her! Every year since 2010, we like our own entries! But this year we didn’t like it! Hopefully next year will be some changes in our national selection so that we will be one day back in the Top 10 🙂 Also there are some people here in Germany who say ‘Nobody like… Read more »

@WTF – I hear you, but the other commenters are right. The scores speak for themselves. Diversity is great and I wish we had more of it in the Contest, but you can’t force the audience and juries to give you points for it. There’s a certain kind of song that does well at Eurovision, and neither “Black Smoke” nor “I Am Yours” were it. TBH, I didn’t think the Makemakes’ vocal performance was up to snuff, and the burning piano came across as “random gimmick #47” rather than an important part of the performance. But nil points? That’s silly.… Read more »

@Mario – Thanks for posting the exact points!
Just goes to show that sometimes, coming last does not not mean that you are actually the worst!

Countries that really deserved last place this year: – France, a boring song, also vocally not that convincing – UK, the performance was a big mess and they sang horribly, especially Mr. Larke’s facial expressions – Cyprus & Greece, I LOVE both songs (both are in my Top 10 ahead of Austria), but let’s face it, all their points come from each other and their Armenian friends – Albania, I also loved this song but not on the actual night. She was by the worst singer in the competition, but thanks to diaspora and neighbours, she made the cut. –… Read more »

Before Eurovision I was concerned that Austria could see the worst results a host has ever seen, because of being Austria. Eurovision is Hell for Austria and especially with televoters Austria is losing with huge margins. But then came the Makemakes and I was thinking, wow what a great song. I got totally carried away and dreamt of double victory. Yet we ended up with the worst result of all times for us and for any host ever. Of course this had to happen. Austria got screwed over in the televoting in every year since the semifinals were introduced. In… Read more »

If I were in Eurovision, I would much rather get nil points than to score just a few points. Nil points is so bad that it’s funny and feels like an accomplishment of some sort.

@ Well indeed about UK…But Armenia’s song actually received more points than the songs of Austria,Albania & France although gathered the most last places that it was 12..
France finished almost last with 239 points & UK came last with 228 points..
These were the real results if all the places got points though..

I don’t get these “song is too much non-eurovision” comments. How do you expect the ESC to improve if we can’t have some diversity? Do you seriously want the same type of songs every damn year?

It is not better than the Makemakes’ version but it is still pretty good.
I do not really consider Ann Sophie a true nil pointer. She got points on both the televote and with the jury. The Makemakes got a genuine 0 with the televoters as did Anggun.
Besides, as Mario has pointed out previously, using a system of ranking every song by how much it was disliked by every country, the two genuinely worst songs of the contest, the UK’s and Armenia’s, would have fill the bottom two places.

Really unbelievable that Ann Sophie lost to German NF Unser Song 4 Vienna with gathering just only the 21,5 % of the votes when the eventual winner Andreas ruled with receiving the rather impressive 78,5% of the whole votes! Really unfortunate 4 him that he withdrew his victory & gave his lucky winning spot to Ann Sophie.. I guess that he didn’t expect to really win the whole thing & represent Deutchland but he DID .. 🙂 I think that if Andreas had went to Vienna instead he would possibly not had done eqaully bad as poor Ann Sophie did…He… Read more »

BUT i didn’t feel any pity 4 the bad place/nul points of the MakeMakes though..
I didn’t care at all 4 them…I didn’t really like their song {was my least liked song of the 27 of the Final..} & they seemed pretty despicable & obnoxious to me..
So i was not affected at all by their disastrous result.. hehe.. 😛

Well Ann Sophie certainly did NOT deserve to do this bad & finishing last with even zero nul points!
Her song was good enough & her performance was not bad either..
She just was not lucky enough to make the cut & hit the top10 so this would ean her precious points..
She finished on descent place in several numerous countries…She only failed to be inside the top10 & thats all..Poor her..
I felt pity 4 her..
I even voted her on the WiWiBlogs awards 4 her cool attitude towards her awful result..

Especially Germanys song lost its charm at Eurovision. i really liked her and her song in the national final. There it was a more bright performance stage wise. In eurovision all that became lost……..

My theory about Austrias and Germanys nil points in the final is as follows.. I think Ann Sophies stage performance was too dark, you did not connect with her. Her stage act was too generic. I think she should have done the precise opposite. Had brighter colours and looked happy and upbeat… to connect with the audience. And i know the song is about something difficult and negative but I think a positive stage act would have been better. Also I guess her song basically wasnt for Eurovision. It is a good song but not in this forum. Austrias nil… Read more »
