Eurovision 2013 winner Emmelie de Forest will release her new single “Hopscotch” on August 10. Judging from the snippet she released on Instagram on August 5, she’s not just playing the game, but also with her genre. The Mother Earth figure from “Only Teardrops” and “Hunter and Prey” has been replaced by an urban pop princess hellbent on appealing to a broader audience. “I live my life, like I’m on a hopscotch,” she says while dancing around her living room in an Audrey Hepburn shirt and animal print pants. “Square one, square two, square three and again…”

This isn’t the first time she’s given us a new sound or image. As you’ll recall, producers redid her face for the cover of “Rainmaker”, casting away apple-cheeked and cute for angular and sexy. And then with “Drunk Tonight” — the title itself suggests a step away from innocence — she slipped into a bikini. (Maybe all this change explains why not everyone recognises her). Regardless of whether you like the new image, Emmelie proves that pop stars aren’t born, but made.

Are you feeling the new sound?

she’s gonna flop again. Her music is not bad but she comes across as unoriginal and bland.

@Mar Actually she’s one of just very few winners of the last years with a 2nd Number 1 Hit in her country 😉 concerning the style of this song I totally agree. Although I think that the song sounds pretty cool, it’s just not the music I’d like to hear from her. Somehow she hides everything that makes her so special and replaces it with the mainstream, that’s a pity. Hopscotch is the game you play on the street jumping from one field to the next one. You can see a picture of it on her single cover (or just… Read more »

That sneak peak sounds, frankly, horrible and so overly produced I can’t even recognise her voice at all. It’s shame she didn’t stick to the style that won her Eurovision, I really like that sort of nature-inspired pop.
Even though I enjoyed her winning song in 2013 (not my fave, but still), I feel like Emmelie is one of the most inconsequential winners of the past years. She really seems to struggle with finding her style and obtaining enough popularity (even in her own country) to maintain a fanbase.
Also, can anyone tell me what a hopscotch is?
