Back in July we heard Polina Gagarina‘s  Russian language version of “A Million Voices”. Now the Eurovision runner-up has released a video for the song – and it’s looking rather familiar.

The video for “A Million Voices” (or “Million golosov” in Russian) is based on the original English language version. Just as the translated lyrics have kept essentially the name message, the new video stays true to the style of the original.

So there is the same footage of people of different ages and ethnicities as the original. There’s also footage of Polina from the original video, but new clips of her have been added of her singing the Russian version.

And, well, it’s not an exact match. Her iconic white dress is back, but as well as having a summer tan, Polina’s hair is looking unstyled, hanging in a straight bob rather than the glamorous windswept look of the original video.

polina-gagarina

But Polina still delivers a passionate performance in the video, with no doubt the lyrics in her mother tongue having deeper meaning for her. “A Million Voices” holds up in Russian and shows why it rightly deserved the 303 points in Vienna.

Great song in any language. I think Russia had the best performance & staging at ESC2015.

Luminous is sometimes an overused word, but Polina is luminous.

Ireland can sing in Gaelic, Malta can sing in Maltese, and UK can sing in Welsh, Scots Gaelic, Manx or Cornish! No disadvantage at all!!! PS – love this song, sounds great in no-pycckuu!

She should have won – end of. Best song, Best Performance, Best Lyrics (the song had meaning), Best Voice, Best Looking Female, Best Staging too. I felt so bad for her when her lead half-way through just collapsed.

@ Robyn I am not talking about a language rule, I am merely talking about providing a tiny, perhaps insignificant, incentive to counter the huge incentive countries have in choosing english. It is absurd that nowadays any country is absolutely terrified to send anything in russian, german or icelandic because they fear the adverse reaction they would be getting. Even french is getting on the black list these days. And why would it be unfair for the UK or Ireland? They will have the right to send something that is not in english as well. If they choose english that’s… Read more »

The only Russian entry that would have made a worthy winner IMO, and it’s even more beautiful in Russian (I still prefer Sweden as a winner, but Russia winning would have been OK too).

I would so love to hear russian in Eurovision again 🙂 And watch Polina compete again in the future.

My proposal: Let the countries who a language other than english pick their own slot in the running order. But of course the powers that want to turn ESC into another Melodifestivalen have no conception whatsoever that monolingusim makes the contest a poorer place…

Nice videoclip <3 🙂 Polina Gay.Gay.rina just shines with brightness <3 🙂 She was undeniably from the acts of Vienna's Vision that stood out & shined in all aspects <3 🙂 GreAtY voice <3 ~ GreAtY beauty <3 ~ GreAtY song <3 ~ GreAtY dress <3 She was just unlucky that she did not win the Vision.. But Polina must feel proud that at least on televoting alone she was just one of the 2 acts only that managed to beat the winner Mans.. It would be cool if Polina returns & participates 4 a second time in EuroVision <3… Read more »
