After returning to the contest in Vienna following a one-year absence, Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has confirmed that Nicosia is in the house for Eurovision 2016. The selection process to find their representative will be announced at a later date. Previously, CyBC’s vice president suggested that the broadcaster would resurrect the Eurovision Song Project from 2015, though this is yet to be confirmed and he may have spoken out of turn.
John Karayiannis reached the final in Vienna, while Despina Olympiou failed to qualify in 2013, the last time the contest was held in Sweden. Although they have already appeared in 32 contests, Cyprus’ best result is just fifth place (albeit on three occasions).

just have one national final with people that can actually sing ugh
although to their credit CyBC always scheduled the episodes in January and at hours that were all theirs so at least it’ll be planned well whatever happens

I love Cyprus and I usually love their songs, but I hope they won’t let me down again by sending a lullaby like they did this year. When ?????? qualified, I was shocked… there were other countries who deserved qualification instead of Cyprus (cough Malta cough)
