Melodifestivalen is the leading event of national selection season and the dates for Melodifestivalen 2016 have just been announced by SVT.
Melodifestivalen 2016 dates
Deltävling 1: On February 6, Gothenburg, Scandinvium
Deltävling 2: On February 13, Malmö, Malmö Arena
Deltävling 3: On February 20, Norrkoping, Himmelstalundshallen
Deltävling 4: On February 27, Gavle, Gavlerinken Arena
Andra Chansen: On March 5, Halmstad, Halmstad Arena (First time apperance)
Final: March 12, Stockholm, Friends Arena
28 acts will perform across six weeks, with 12 finalists appearing at Friends Arena in Stockholm and fighting to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm.
Rumours about which acts will compete are only hotting up and will likely be announced toward the end of 2015.
Smajling Swedes are the first confirmed act for the competition and 2015 finalist Dinah Nah has made clear she’s also putting herself in the running.
The budget has been set at 125 million Swedish krona and Måns Zelmerlow, who won last year’s Melodifestivalen, is hot favourite to host the full Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

I know Uppsala is quite close to Stockholm, but being the 4th city in Sweden is not fair it never hosted a Melfest act 🙁 Specially when this year Halmstad does…

Congratulations Halmstad…it’s only 70-80 Km north-west of Malmo and is the least populated town amongst all the host cities of Melfest 2016. Each year we ponder over the idea of stretching the actual ESC contest phases a bit longer and the Melfest is a really good stepping stone to make that achievable. I think that one of the ways to reward the Big 5 donor nations is by holding an annual preliminary ESC round in each one of their respective countries to determine the list of 24-26 finalists making it to the host country.
