Irish-language broadcaster TG4 has released a promo video for its upcoming Junior Eurovision national selection show and it’s already looking slicker and more exciting than Ireland’s grown-up version.

The show, which will be hosted by Eoghan McDermott, features a judging panel of Irish Eurovision stars Niamh Kavanagh and Brian Kennedy, and young singer Stiofán Ó Fearail.

The promo video shows what viewers can expect from the five shows that were recorded in Dublin earlier this month, as Ireland selects its debut JESC performer. There’s a large studio audience and a full stage – a big step up from RTÉ’s Eurosong show where the competing acts perform in a cramped corner of a talk show set.

The junior national selection looks to be full of fun and – unlike the grown-up version – we’re pretty sure there won’t be any childish bickering. And any show that features Niamh Kavanagh shaking her booty behind the judges’ desk has to be a good thing!

The Irish Junior Eurovision national selection series will begin on 11 October, screening weekly on Sundays.

@Robyn:
I know, its ridiculous haha the jacket isn’t even nice for a start. RTE should use The Voice of Ireland as its Eurovision selection show. It would make The Voice winner somewhat relevant after winning, or even The Hit, which was a successful format that they sold to the Netherlands and Germany among others. It seems they really dont care about Eurovision, so why waste the money participating? Give the rights of an Irish entrant to another broadcaster that would at least try. .

Im hoping if Ireland do well this year that RTE will learn that this is how you do a NF and not that shite on the late late.

Actually really impressed by what my country is lining up for its Junior debut in Sofia in November. TG4 are really pulling out all the stops, the set looks amazing for the preselection, way better than anything that the pathetic RTE could muster up, where our national final consists of stupid Eurovision related games, in order to win the “Johnny jacket” were the only eurovision songs mentioned are pre-2000…I am actually really embarrassed by RTE’s handling of Eurovision, like why even bother? Im not expecting an Irish Melodifestivalen, but a proper national final would be nice. I hope Ireland win… Read more »

What the hell Ireland? You are doing this right for the juniors like you should have been for years for the adults. So it stands to reason that there will be no more embarrassing late night talk show and an actual primetime contest this year, right? RIGHT?!!

I think this will be a well known show, like our Junior Songfestival. Mabey Ireland will win as the second debut act.
