Stella Mwangi — Norway’s Eurovision 2011 singer — recently sent this Tweet about keeping busy: “I woke up this morning and realized that I don’t have what it takes to sit back and do nothing.”

Sistah don’t lie! In recent months Stella has been busy releasing hip hop singles and remixes. This week she adds “Chukua Hatua” to the list and we are loving it. It’s all about taking action against whatever holds you back, and serving East African realness (read: positivity, drive, self-belief) while standing tall.

Stella, who wrote and composed the track, gives that message life in the video, which supports Safi International, an organisation that provides low-cost cookers to people in need. She channels positive energy and sports a fierce braided hairstyle to boot. Her wardrobe embraces her Kenyan roots, and she boasts an urban swagger that redefines fierce! Oslo got game, y’all.

Although “Chukua Hatua” is essentially a charity single, Stella remains faithful to her #biashara sound. It’s good to see and artist flourishing in her craft. That’s what makes tuning into Stella Mwangi’s music such a joy!

Chukua Hatua Lyrics (Stella Mwangi)

Hey! aaah yeh…..yes.

– (Chukua) stand up tall…
– …(Hatua) dance for your rights.

” Yo! I’d like to share my story
No stress no worries, just me and a smile 🙂
Been through shit, came out clean
Bet you ask why how i stay so fly?
Positiveness Kenyan so fresh
Image of God. Don’t trust no less
Good vibes I share with you cus life is what you choose to do so…

– (Chukua) stand up tall…
– …(Hatua) dance for your rights.

(uh…)
I went from good, to being better
Self discovered, No contestant
Self employed. Greater joy!
Coming coming strong with that necessary noise!
…uh
So Whats your story? Write it down or lose your gold and glory..
…uh
Whats your story? Write it down or lose…

– (Chukua) better stand up tall…
– …(Hatua) dance for your rights.

Yeah man! wooh’

(yes, okay…..)
?îyè ?jètàgùò STL
?dàthíè Kisumu ?gètùò Jaber
Some of them get it, some them don’t.
Me i don’t care am gon stand tall
Ruffin ruffin am gon stand tall
Some of them finish, some of them fall…
GOTTA FINISH WHAT YOU START IF YOU WANNA END IT SMART!
Dogs will bark when they see you set apart but…

– (Chukua) stand up tall…
– …(Hatua) dance for your rights

Booyaka! Badili Akili.

Interesting song…It seems fresh & original..
Well i did not really like her 2011 song *Haba Haba* {although it was fun & cheerful song} She managed to meet GreAtY commercial success in Norway with that song & topped the norwegian charts going straight to number #1! Although she couldn’t repeat the success on EuroVision with failing to get the ticket 4 the grand final..
I like her aura as she seems cool & pleasant..
I would not mind to see a singer like Stella again in EuroVision..

If there’s one past ESC contestant I’d love to see return to the ESC stage its Stella Mwangi. Love her. Haba haba not qualifying to the finals and finishing top 5 for me was one of ESC’s greatest crimes!

I would love to see her back at Eurovision. With a song like this. I love her hiphop-style.
