Party for everybody, dance! Russian Eurovision broadcaster RTR have reportedly confirmed that Russia will be present at the 61st annual Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden.
No news has been made yet on how the Eurovision powerhouse nation will select their artist for 2016. Will they decide to select internally, a la 2015 with Polina Gagarina? Or will they revert back to a national final, a la 2012 with Buranovskiye Babushka? Only time will tell!
2016 may appear to be an interesting year for Russia at Eurovision. After Polina Gagarina’s well-deserved second place, will they be hungry for a victory? How will the return of Ukraine into the contest pan out for Mother Russia? Can we have a boo-free performance?
Russia’s confirmation takes the provisional participating number to a promising total of 39 countries.

Another song about peace and wisdom?
@V
“Occupied” is the word using in historical texts for the period when countries like Estonia were part of the Soviet Union. I am not saying whether thats the right or wrong word, don’t want to get into political arguments here and am not a “Russophobe” but in terms of historical books/texts etc it is the word commonly used for that period.

Montenegro have just confirmed “preliminary participation”- so we NOW have 39 🙂
Just waiting on Portugal and Croatia now…
Liana, occupied is not a right word. I know, you are ignorant russophobe, but still, have mind.
Polina was great, and she had the privilege to sing the very good song ‘A million voices’ . For 2016: Please Russia, choose a great singer, male or female,or group, but in any case no Dima Bilan again. He has had more than enough moments of fame, and on stage he is more busy with trying to be cool and overacting than with singing (in tune).
“I think you should credit ESCToday for their work on this in a clearer way. Wouldn’t mentioning them in the text (and not only by a link) be reasonable?”
I second this. Come on guys, let’s not be petty.
“Could you seriously stop saying “Mother Russia”? its offensive to the countries, which were occupied by Russia.”
I second this too.
Keep sending the girls. They bring in the points. If they send a guy, only Dima can fill that bill. If they send anyone else, all bets are off.
@Azaad, nope there’s 39
I really hope everyone’s done with the petty booing. I’ve stated the reasons as to how disgusting that is several times, so I won’t know. But honestly I really hope that’s over, it makes me ashamed to be a Eurovision fan.
Could you seriously stop saying “Mother Russia”? its offensive to the countries, which were occupied by Russia.
Let’s hope for another fantasic performance like Polina’s again. Or send Polina again, why not? 🙂
I’m sure that they’re only 38 participants right now, not 39. Wikipedia counted a country that hasn’t confirmed, I think.
Thanks!! That took way to long!
Well expected 4 Russia to be with us in Sweden’s Vision..
We might had negative issues with the booings against Russia’s acts last year & this year but this will not be reason 4 them to leave & withdraw..
I’m positive that we won’t have lousy over the top booings against Russia in Stockholm’s Contest…I guess that we will have a permanent end to this phenomenon…Unless Russia continues its homophobic anti gay policies against gays & homosexuality…Hopefully the situation 4 gays will be getting better & better from now on in Russia.. 🙂
I think you should credit ESCToday for their work on this in a clearer way. Wouldn’t mentioning them in the text (and not only by a link) be reasonable? What is Wiwibloggs’ stand on source referencing? I think that a good practice would be to use the phrase “according to…” more often.
Nyusha should represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest or send Tolmachevy Sisters again
Dima 🙂
