Cast your minds back to the 8th of May, 2014. It was the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. Paula Seling had just finished squealing after a solid 18 seconds of one note. As the ringing in our ears began to subside, we all knew we were about to be treated with one of the best interval acts we’ve ever seen. Well, the second half of the presentation anyway. The whole Broadway show of Australian stereotypes – gross.

It’s been a little while since we’ve all heard from that semi-final star Jessica Mauboy. After her performance of “Sea of Flags” at the B&W Hallerne, Jessica dropped away from the music scene for a little while. Little did we know she had been secretly working in London with David Sneddon, a UK-based songwriter who had worked with names such as Lana Del Rey, Olly Murs and Nicole Scherzinger. And they concocted a track called “This Ain’t Love”.

Sorry to break it to you, Miss Mauboy. But this is love.

Treat yourself.

Taking obvious inspiration from other drum-and-bass artists such as Disclosure and Rudimental, Jessica Mauboy cleverly meshes these heavy sounds with angelic soulful harmonies and an undeniably good vocal range.

Jessica Mauboy said in a recent radio interview that her new album – due date and title TBA – will feature less of the R&B/Pop sounds we are used to and will channel a more soulful and earthy vibe. And if “This Ain’t Love” is anything to go by, we are certainly in for a treat and believe that Jessica Mauboy will be onto a winner.

@mawnck Wow, this seems perfect. Are they looking for some good response before sending it to Sweden?

Slayed it with target precision! Loved the vibe, the groove, the attitude, the immediate chorus hook, the choir effect…what’s there not to love?

Oh I preferred all the way Jessica to represent Australia over Guy Sebastian! She attracted my interest last year in the Vision of Copenhagen that was the interval act in one of the SFs.. She was 2nd/runner up in Australian Idol back 9 years ago back in 2006.. Oh…I read that in 2009 she was in relationship with a greek soccer player athlete from my country Greece 🙂 ( Like Delta Goodrem was also in relationship back in 2004 with the Greek Mark Philipousis 🙂 She had came to Athens 4 the Olympic Games to see Mark after her recovery… Read more »
