Sex! Sex, sex, sex! Yes, the sweet Swiss songstress who sang about being “In Love For A While” before a backdrop of fluffy clouds and stars at Eurovision 2011 is singing about sex. And no, we’re not misinterpreting the true meaning. Anna Rossinelli confirmed it all herself when speaking to SRF Radio:

It’s about two people who are together for one night, and “Bang Bang Bang” stands for sex

But don’t worry, Anna and her bandmates haven’t gone all Miley Cyrus. They’re not referring to the hump and dump variety, but rather the sensual and meaningful kind. Which of course is so much better.

“Bang Bang Bang” is the first new music we’ve heard from the group in over a year, and marks quite a substantial change in tack for them. Not just thematically, but also tonally. The light boppy feel good nature of “Shine In The Light” and “Let It Go” is gone. Their latest track is much more noirish, shrouded in a sense of smoky melancholy. Don’t mistake this for an ode to the joys of love. And it’s not about heartbreak either, well not strictly speaking. Rossinelli documents a tale of insatiable lust, and in a sense that’s probably as painful as any broken heart.

Anna Rossinelli “Bang Bang Bang” Official Video”

The band seem to be having a bit of a Lana Del Rey moment. Everything is very dark, very cool and very Americana. Even the black and white video was filmed in Arizona and Tennessee. Of course, we don’t get the same levels of Hollywood-esque glamour. There’s no sumptuous strings or high-end productions. And thankfully Anna is not dripping in Lana style apathy. But the Del Rey flavour is there nonetheless. It’s refreshing, and makes for a nice taster ahead of the new album, “Takes Two To Tango”, which is due next month. We won’t object to a little Anna Del Rossinelli.

Anna Rossinelli Interview Summer 2014

Anna Rossinelli – Bang Bang Bang Lyrics

Both feel each other’s breath
Lying side by side
Hold each other tight
And make our separate worlds collide
Both know this isn’t right
Know we lost control
Keep each other warm
And try to melt our frozen souls
I want you
And you want me
Thoughts that we should burn

Bang, bang, bang
That’s how we call it baby
Bang, bang, bang
Let’s explode baby
Bang, bang, bang
And it’s never gonna end, end, end
Until we get there

Thoughts wandering astray
And getting lost in space
We seek each other’s eyes
And we start feeling out of place
Starts to play this game
There’s a need to be surprised
It weighs too much to carry on
With pockets full of lies
I want you
And you want me
Thoughts that we should burn

Bang, bang, bang
That’s how we call it baby
Bang, bang, bang
Let’s explode baby
Bang, bang, bang
And it’s never gonna end, end, end
Until we get there

So let them say
What they want to say
So let them do
What they want to do
So let them talk
So let them know
What they think they know
What they want to know

I say
Bang, bang, bang
That’s how we call it baby
Bang, bang, bang
Let’s explode baby
Bang, bang, bang
It’s only bang, bang, bang
I say
Bang, bang, bang
That’s how we call it baby
Bang, bang, bang
Let’s explode baby
Bang, bang, bang
And it’s never going to end
Until we get there

Cheesecake I couldn’t agree more. I liked her entry in 2011 but all her post Eurovision music is what Switzerland needs to bring to future contests.

I love this.
Anna Rossinelli is by far the best artist we’ve sent to Eurovision in the past years. I wish she’d represented us with a better song. Her music has gotten so much better.
