In late September, Armenia revealed the gender of its representative and confirmed its participation at Eurovision 2016. They also revealed that the artist would be announced on October 13. We opened the floor to our readers in a poll and we can now reveal who you think should be on a flight to Stockholm next May.

After counting 6,177 votes, Genealogy’s American petal Tamar Kaprelian has come out on top with a total of 1,147 votes. Since representing Armenia as part of Genealogy in Vienna, Tamar has released her “Yours To Keep” EPsecured the title of Eurovision’s Next Top Model and spearheaded a Eurovision collaboration, all while studying at Columbia University. Now our readers want Tamar to make Eurovision 2016 her next project, with the Armenian-American diva securing over 18% of the votes cast. Clearly her performance in Vienna has bolstered her popularity, with Tamar securing only 35 votes in a similar poll held last year.

Another diva riding a wave of popularity since their performance with Genealogy is Inga Arshakyan, the Armenian petal of the Genealogy flower. After securing Armenia a Top Ten finish with her sister Anush in 2009, Inga returned to the Eurovision stage in 2015. The duo have also been selected as Armenia’s representatives in the OGAE Song Contest 2015. Aside from Tamar, she was the only woman to secure over a thousand votes, finishing second with a total of 1,026 votes – over 16% of all votes cast.

Yerevan-based singer Sona Rubenyan was the only woman in the Top Five who hasn’t been to Eurovision before, finishing ahead of Inga’s sister Anush Arshakyan and Armenia’s highest Eurovision point scorer Sirusho, all of whom collected over 10% of the votes each.

Who will sing for Armenia at Eurovision 2016?

We love Miss Kaprelian, but are fairly sure she won’t be singing at Eurovision. AMPTV likes to mix it up and it’s highly unlikely that they would pick a member of Genealogy just a few months after their performance in Vienna. Our in-house speculation has centred around Iveta Mukuchyan and Athena Manoukian, who finished sixth and eighth in the poll respectively, while Lilit Hovhannisyan was the only other woman to secure over a hundred votes.

Sona Rubenyan has the strongest vocals compared to all of the others. She’s a very talented singer with very big range and unique voice.

Well cool 4 Tamar <3 She was the one lady that i voted 🙂 But i really do not think that it will be her that will represent Armenia in Sweden's Vision next year though sadly.. Oh…Athena Manoukian that was hyped as the lucky one to represent Armenia just bombed big time with finishing just 8th…Really disappointing 4 her.. It will be cool if EMMY goes… The date that the Grand Final of ESC 2016 will take place is actually the same with the grand Final of the Vision of 2011 that she had participated 4 years ago.. And she… Read more »

Hell no, she’s so overrated D: Just because she’s pretty doesn’t mean she’s extra talented.. I mean she is, but she’s not THAT good as people make her to be.

Eh. I think it should be Monica Avanesyan, Dailta, or LuAra.

I really don’t think Armenia will go for a returning artist this year. I think it’s Iveta, Athena or Lilit.
