Bulgaria’s BNT will officially present its Junior Eurovision 2015 song at 20:00 CET this evening, but you can already watch the official video on the JESC YouTube channel.
“Cvetat na nadejdata” (The Color of Hope) is another big ballad from Bulgaria — and it’s giving us major tingles. Eurovision fans are in for surprise as Gabriela Yordanova — the winner of the country’s JESC selection — doesn’t sing alone. In the second half of the song Ivan Stoyanov, the runner-up from the selection show, joins her to turn this into a major power duet that is sending tremors from Bulgaria to Bolivia and beyond!
In the video we see Gabriela walking through the city of Ruse, where she’s from, interspersed with shots of her recording in the studio. She flips between every day teenager and glammed-up starlet — perhaps a reminder to everyone that the JESC acts are all normal kids at heart. When Ivan appears later in the video he walks along the beach. The crashing waves are a hint at the vocal drama he brings. We love how their voices work together. It’s like Krisia Todorova x 2! According to a BNT press release, “The message of the song is about hope, dreams and happiness – illustrating the ability of children to find the colors of life.” You can see that in the lyrics: “Let’s mix in all of the colors and then paint the dusty towns.”
Are you loving this song as much as we are?
“Cvetat na nadejdata” — English lyrics (The Color of Hope)
Today the world is too grey,
Too boring and stern,
Indifferent and cold
And for some – even cruel.
But I have an incredible plan
It’s very simple and easy
Even just you and I
Could give the world back its smile.
Let’s mix in
All of the colors
And then paint
The dusty towns.
Get rid of the grey and the black,
Stop for a moment, look up,
Do you remember, did you forget,
There are the colors of hope.
Look at the rainbow, it turns into rain
And countless colorful raindrops fall down.
And each one of them, if you touch it just once,
creates a thousand rainbows, where hope shines.
It’s all so easy,
Maybe each one of us
Could with their own hands
Cover with a rainbow
Each tired street,
Each house and each wall:
Go and paint on them
Only with the colors of your dreams.

So… I listened some more, and the more I do, the more I like it. I have to say that at first hearing it did sound a little sad, but now it is almost uplifting. I think part of the issue is that we all expect the climax, the instrumentals and the power of “Planet of the Childen”… This here is beautiful in a more subtle way. I really cannot predict how it will do this year. I hope it does well:-)
I’m not sure what I think about this song yet. I like that it has a very thoughtful melody and a mature sound. The lyrics reference some serious matters and the music has an archaic sound that reflects the seriousness well. However, the message of the song is about hope, but the song does not sound really hopeful to me. I feel like the song needs to “take off” somewhere, but it never really does.
One word: BORING!

Nicely surprised by this song of hope! Beautiful voices and exceptional lyrics. It shakes the stereotypes of the average, shallow eurovision song. Many would argue that this is not the stereotypical, easygoing, full of pretensions happiness kid song.
But the Little Prince is smiling with Gabriela and Ivan because the “eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart.”
This isn’t as good as Krisia, butt the verses are nice to listen to. The ending is just weak. I wonder how they are going to perform this.
My top 13:

This is very beautiful and their voices are incredible. I love it, all the way to the lyrics and how natural the kids are. Gabriela is easily as beautiful as Lina, Lena or Anna, but there is barely any make up on her… I am not sure if kids can appreciate such a song or vocals. I will be disappointed if Armenia’s song gets more point than this. I like Armenia, please do not take me wrong, but hopefully JESC is about the vocals than the videos of the songs… By the way, William-good job with your blogging and your… Read more »
To say I like this I would have to be lying! This song is just like Belarus and Russia , it almost puts me to sleep!! Still not as bad as Albania though!

Definitely let down for me.. Its not a bad song but its nothing special..
An ok ordinary typical ballad that after you finish listening to it you really can’t remember what kind of a song you actually heard..
Its even one of my least liked songs sadly..

Booooo >> Seems like cyrillic doesn’t work on the blog… Anyway @Boryana, if to be Bulgarian means to not be able to express my opinion more than happy not to be considered one. But right now I believe the problem is something else so I`ll temporarily insist in my nationality. The thing is I don’t know exactly where you found me saying anything bad for Gabi and/or Ivan. If I have please quote me. I`ll clear such misunderstandings swiftly and will be more than happy to apologize in case that I am in the wrong. The thing that I am… Read more »

rhin, in my opinion you might be from Bulgaria, but you are not a real Bulgarian. I am a Bulgarian girl and can’t say anything bad about this song and these children. There is nothing wrong with the retro sound, Ivan is a great young boy and he makes really good this song. I don’t want to write about Gabi but don’t forget that it was the public’s choice in Bulgaria. If we, Bulgarians, don’t support each other, what we expect from others countries?! I wish good luck to Gabi and Ivan and all other children from Europe and to… Read more »

I am from Bulgaria and to tell the truth I am disappointed. It is not that the song is bad but this is not suitable for the show (not that I find 90% of the other ballads suitable but oh, well… XD). It is just not a winner song! It is very retro sound that is popular with the old Bulgarian artists. Somewhere I read that Gabi likes exactly that music style so I guess it is partly her idea the song is like this. It is not a style that is appreciated by many even if interesting on its… Read more »
I think Bulgaria might become the Sweden/Azerbaijan of JESC- this is good
It’s very nice and should do well, for me Serbia is still the ballad of this year.
I don’t understand your negativity… it’s not Planet of the Children, but it’s still a very good ballad (yes, another ballad, but if they’re good ones it doesn’t bother me)
Sounds terrible.
It’s not bad. It’s kind of average for me. I expected better from Bulgaria but then again I thought that their song last year is slightly overrated.
Disappointing for me.
i kinda like it, not as bad as everybody says but the ending is very abrubt.
there voices dont work together at all. Just have one of them or the other. Needed a keychange imo
I am all for ballads. The more ballads the better but this gave me a headache. Don’t like their voices, don’t like the song. I don’t like anything about this.
This is a few classes below Planetata na detsata, don’t like it
It’s a good song but I can’t see this winning, maybe the’ll do well because they’re the host country but nothing special
I dont like this 🙁 I’m sorry….
Like, no where near as good as last year though..
I don’t really like it.
It is not like just because 2 ballads won in a row, all countries should send slow forgettable songs. But that is just my opinion.
