At 10:15am CET this morning, the official YouTube channel for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest unveiled the next song vying for the trophy in Sofia. Introducing Jana Mirkovic from Montenegro, with “Oluja”.

“Oluja” is a nice change of pace from Montenegro. In a competition packed tight with powerful, mature ballads, it’s incredibly refreshing to hear a song that is a little more uptempo and funky that incorporates vocal maturity alongside child-friendly pop.

The video starts on a stormy morning in Montenegro, showing a handsome fellow with a jawline for daaayyyssss. In true Montenegrin fashion, Jana throws on her incredibly patriotic scarf and makes her way through cobblestone streets for a little dance with her all-girl band serving orange pop realness.

We then get a tiny flashback to presumably a young Jana playing hide-and-seek with a young boy, who actually gifts the scarf to her to begin with. However the young boy is heartbroken as she runs away. Poor darling!

After some more dancing and some more backup singers dressed in pleather, we are back with current-day Jana reunited with the handsome chiseled-jaw boy and they share a lovely moment together in a beautiful field surrounded by mountains! (Thanks, Montenegro Tourism!)

The song and video overall is catchy and fun, and shares a lovely message of young love and friendship. From Podgorica to my iPod – you slay, Jana!

She’ll be old enough to compete for Montenegro this upcoming year in Eurovision as she turns 16 in mid April 2016.

I cannot say that I am impressed. This song does not stand out for me. I want to read the lyrics and try to listen a few more times before deciding if it deserves to get to my I-pod. Does anybody have the English translation of the lyrics?

I thought upbeat songs weren’t meant to put you to sleep. *YAWN*
Just another average Junior Eurovision song.

I think this song WILL stand out, but it will depend on the staging especially in the long instrumental gap.

Meanwhile, I think it’s still very open season for anyone to win — even San Marino if they have a good entry that is NOT an 80s type tune again — otherwise Australia wins.

Wow. I really expected Montenegro to come up with a great winner power ballad. It is called Storm and it’s written by the writer of Molitva. The song is not special. My top 14:

1. Australia
2. Slovenia
3. The Netherlands
4. Ukraine
5. Albania
6. Bulgaria
7. F.Y.R. Macedonia
8. Russia
9. Belarus
10. Serbia
11. Georgia
13. MONTENEGRO
14. Italy

It’s fun! Maybe the happiest song this year. It reminds me of the first JESC’s songs, and I like that it is suitable for children AND it’s not another ballad 😀

Ugh I hate it. Why couldn’t it just be a Balkan ballad.

I think the singer’s great and the song is good in parts, but staging is going to be key if they want a chance at getting into the top 5. As there’s nearly a whole minute of no singing (in the first – 20 seconds and middle – 30 seconds) because of the long instrumental I’m worried the jury may mark her down.
Top 3:
1) Australia
2) Albania
3) Slovenia

Major Macarena vibes from those first few notes! It’s fun and upbeat (hint of late nineties early noughties B*Witched), but there’s no chorus hook drawing me in. Will be interesting to see what her vocals are like live, and I hope she’s a great dancer for that huge gap in the middle!

The video is really cute, but the song seems to be nothing special… everything’s going to depend on the live performance in Sofia

I was thinking it was going to be a power ballad, judging from the song title and that is was written by the same guy who produced “Molitva”. When I first heard the song, I thought “Ohhh, a dance track, something this years contest needs (or at least a good one)”. But this song is actually, for me, a major disappointment. 6/10.
