It was a long and stressful night in Portugal, as the blind auditions continued on The VoiceJoana Leite (Festival da Canção 2012) and Filipa Azevedo (Eurovision 2010) hoped to impress the show’s four mentors — Anselmo Ralph, Aurea, Marisa Liz and Mickael Carreira. They went in very different directions.

Singing The Black Keys’ “Lonely Boy”, Joana worked her smooth voice while strumming her guitar, but that wasn’t enough to turn any chairs — not even that of Marisa Liz, who wrote Joana’s entry for Festival da Canção. Joana was understandably emotional at the end of it all. Maybe next time…

Things went very differently for Filipa Azevedo, the last Portuguese Eurovision contestant to qualify for the final back in 2010 (“Há Dias Assim”). Coming back after a six-year hiatus, she slayed the pack and turned all four chairs with her take on Etta James’s “At Last”. She chose Anselmo Ralph as her mentor.

Do you think Filipa Azevedo is going to be The Voice? Were you thrilled to see her back on the stage? Let us know below!

@Marcus (day one): Sooner or later you will have to understand one thing – RTP does not care at all for Eurovision, therefore whatever suggestion you or me or anyone could give them in order to select a winner to represent Portugal, is worthless … there is not sense of commitment or willing to focus on it from their behalf. I’m sorry but they couldn’t care less about the whole competition, nor how other countries end up choosing their entries.

And people outside Portugal still wonder with anger and paranoia why RTP has withdrawn from Eurovision … do you really want to help RTP and their own Festival da Canção to not invest in their own artists and promote them to build a career? Or is all a selfish thing – you just want the country in because the more the merrier – and if the singer ends up working at store after that, who cares? What a great attitude that is then …

RTP could use the winner/runner-up of this year’s voice for next year’s Eurovision contestant.
And give them a song written by a professional.
Just like Belgium did in 2013 and 2015

I really liked Filipa’s entry in 2010, and I had no idea she didn’t pursue her singing career after that. All the best to her!

Filipa Azevedo is the best example for us to see the lack of importance that is gave to ESC by our national television, RTP! She was the last great representative that we had on Eurovision and RTP and my country simply forgets her and don’t give her a chance to live in the music world! It’s such a shame the fact that we have lost her for many years.. I really hope a huge comeback with The Voice! Besides all the polemic back in 2010, she was brilliant in Oslo and obv. deserves a better chance in music!
