Conchita Wurst celebrated her birthday on November 6, and she celebrated with a smashing performance of “Rise Like a Phoenix” on Italian TV. Well, her character did anyway! Last night Italian singer Valerio Scanu portrayed the world’s favourite bearded lady on Tale e Quale Show, the Italian version of Your Face Sounds Familiar.
Scanu, the winner of Sanremo 2010 and runner-up on the eighth series of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi, has a knack for impersonating famous singers, including Stevie Wonder and Jon Bon Jovi. And last Friday he slipped into a wig and that iconic golden dress to shine on stage.
Scanu does Conchita
Lesbihonest: he seemed to have eaten Conchita before taking to the stage, but the make up, the voice and the movements were so similar to the original that it’s not surprising he won first place on the night. Congrats Valerio!
It makes us wonder: will we see Scanu among the contestants of Sanremo 2016? His upcoming album is ready and it seems he submitted a song to the committee that will select the 18 songs. In about a month we’ll know if he will compete for a chance to sing for Italy at Eurovision 2016.
Back to Conchita, what do you think of the impersonation?
