Mikhail Smirnov Russia Junior Eurovision 2015

On Tuesday we said that Russia‘s Mikhail Smirnov had set himself up as one to watch ahead of Saturday night’s final. Today Mikhail hit every note of his power ballad “Mechta” and the screens really enhanced the performance. Vocally stimulating and visually stunning, Russia’s performance should catapult it up the leader board on Saturday night. PS. That dancer is fierce!

THIS IS WHAT WE THOUGHT OF HIS FIRST REHEARSAL

Mikhail Smirnov revamped “Mechta” following Russia’s national selection, taking it from middle-of-the-road to front-of-the-pack. His first rehearsal at Junior Eurovision 2015 marked another evolution: he’s cemented his place as one to watch ahead of Saturday’s live show.

Wearing a rather dapper blue suit, he stands centre stage and seems to feel every note and beat, bending and stepping and throwing his arm around like a proper R&B singer. A lady friend in white rocks in a hammock before getting up and stretching out — she’s all pirouettes, spins, and splits. Along with a purple-to-blue sky and plenty of stars, this creates the dreamy feelings he so tenderly sings about. His voice fits the music and the staging quite well. Given Russia’s ever-reliable diaspora, look for this to challenge.

This really works. Russia has done a great job with the staging. It’s much more interesting than the sleepy video of him in the field.

Breaking News:
According to some unofficial sources our beloved Opera Diva Montserrat Caballe’ (age 82) is considered for Austra’s next ESC 2016 entry in Stockholm. She will be accompanied by five members of Vienna’s Boys Choir.

From my point of view, if this story comes true, Austria will be 100% a sure winner! Even in my most wishful thinkings I can’t believe this, but it would be very nice.
