Melodifestivalen 2016 is a who’s who of fan favourites. Molly Sanden, Ace Wilder and Molly Pettersson Hammar will all return — and they’re already storming the odds table. Also competing are Martin Stenmarck, who represented Sweden in 2005, Ding Dong girl and Finland’s 2013 representative Krista Siegfrids and Tommy Nilsson, who competed in Eurovision during the late 80’s. In total 18 artists are returning to #melfest in 2016.

But what about this year’s twelve debutants? Hoping to unearth some hot tunes and to get a sense of the flavour these artists will bring, we dug through some of their discographies. Here are the results…

Robin Bengtsson — “I Don’t Like to Wait”

Robin Bengtsson — who will compete with the song “Constellation Price” — released his EP “Sleep On It” last year. The Swedes couldn’t get to bed — they were too busy looping his single “I Don’t Like to Wait“, which has now been streamed more than one million times on Spotify. It’s mellow yet upbeat, funky yet mainstream. Robin has a date in the first deltävling against Ace Wilder and Samir & Viktor.

Albin — “Din soldat feat. Kristin Amparo”

Serving Eminem Caucasian rap realness, Albin had one of the biggest summer hits in 2014. “Din Soldat” — which features Melodifestivalen 2015 singer Kristin Amparo — stayed on the Swedish singles chart for 40 weeks and has clocked more than 34 million streams on Spotify. More recently Albin released a single with Mattias Andréasson, with whom he will compete in Melodifestivalen.

Victor och Natten – “Svin på rutin”

Victor jr. Morsing is the man behind Victor och Natten. His 2014 single “Svin på rutin” stayed in the Swedish singles chart for eight weeks, peaking at #13. At the moment it also has 4.5 million streams on Spotify.

Lisa Ajax — “Unbelievable”

After 17-year-old Lisa Ajax won Swedish Idol in 2014, she watched her winner’s single “Unbelievable” top the local iTunes charts and later peak at #14 on the Swedish singles charts. Lisa has subsequently released the club banger “Blue Eyed Girl“. She is currently one of the bookies’ favourites to win the contest, confirming the hype that she’s Sweden’s future it girl.

Elias feat. Frans — “Who’s da’ man”

At the age of seven, Frans paid tribute to Sweden’s best-known footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The catchy — albeit completely ridiculous — song has recorded over a million views on Youtube and even topped the Swedish charts. It’s no wonder that Frans went on to perform it live on Allsång på Skansenperhaps the biggest show in Sweden after Melodifestivalen. Now Frans is all grown-up and will sing “If I Were Sorry” in the fourth semifinal.

Once on the Eurovision stage, Lisa Ajax can count on a lot of votes from Amsterdam.

Lisa Ajax will do good, but I don’t know about the others. I see her qualifying straight to the final, and placing around third-fifth.
