“The Next Star For Eurovision 2016”, the singing reality show that will choose Israel’s representative for Eurovision 2016, is heating up. Last night the judges chose another six artists to join the drag queens, divas, and Orthodox rappers from last week in the next phase of the show.  If you missed the first episode, you can watch it here.

Show 01 - Israel Next Star 2016

This week the search kicked off with a series of weirdoes, before producers introduced us to a few acts with some serious potential. Surely one or two of them are made from the same golden material as our beloved “Golden Boy”. Let’s find out…

THE NEXT STAR: WEEK TWO QUALIFIERS

Ela Daniel -Israel-Next Star2016

Ela Daniel
Born in Azerbaijan, Ela came to Israel when she was only two years old. She writes her own music and has her own style, as seen by her cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” — with accordion.

Sisters Noam & Yael Cohen
If Russia and Slovakia can send sisters to Eurovision, then why shouldn’t Israel go for it?
These girls have been singing since they were kids, are cute as buttons and have major chemistry. As you can see in the video, they certainly know how to make their father move…

Neomi Azran -Israel-Next Star2016

Naomi Azran
Naomi is a recent immigrant from France, where she was part of a series of girl bands that all split up. She sings in the streets for money and sees Eurovision as a way to make it big. Will you throw her some coins and a chance? Here is her audition of “Me and My Broken Heart”.

Dave Rubin -Israel-Next Star2016

Dave Rubin
Dave is 50 years old and a former boxer. But this tough man has a gentle side, as he showed us on his surprising cover of Stevie Wonder’ s “Lately”.

Sapir Kakoon -Israel-Next Star2016

Sapir Kakoon
A few months ago Sapir’s boyfriend had a jet ski accident and drowned. As she coped with the loss she became a policewoman. She made the judges cry, but will she continue to thrill them in the next phase? Here is her audition of “Ad She’Tachazor (Until You Come Back)”.

Evyatar Tzadok -Israel-Next Star2016

Evyatar Tzadok
Evyatar comes from a musical family: his brother, Uziyah, won a similar junior competition for singers. He’s one of a dozen children, so is used to having to fight to stand out. No wonder he sang a song called  “Yeled” (Child).

YOU CAN WATCH EPISODE 2 OF “THE NEXT STAR FOR EUROVISION 2016” HERE.

Auditions continue in the coming weeks, followed by the second phase where the judges will choose the actual finalists. At that point all of the acts will sing each week, with one biting the dust each time. Those shows will air on Friday night.

Which artist do you like the most so far? Who do you think would do well for Israel at Eurovision?

@Erin Yea, it is a comercial for Israeli-made furniture, to encourage Israelis to buy their furniture and not IKEA’s.
It’s all for laughs. But how did you know what the commercial say? Do you know Hebrew? or did you inferred it from the video?

Not too much talent in this show so far…

Ela would get Nul Points!
The others are very average singers with little or no stage presence.
Hopeless!

The best part of these videos was watching the commercial before the actual videos where it goes: “Swedish Kids. Swedish furniture. Israeli kids need extra strong beds made out of solid wood at surprising prices”…BOO HOO for stereotyping Swedish kids: what an incredibly cheap shot!

@Hector, they were arguing over his originality. Harel Skaat said that he is nervous that if Evyatar continued in the competition he wouldn’t expand as an artist and would not create his own image since he sings and looks a lot like many other singers in Israel. Karen Peles said that it is more important to be yourself on stage and rather than originality. Mooki used the red because he felt Evyatar was still not mature enough for the competition and looked at music as if he were a child and not adult. Harel ended up using his blue because… Read more »

I really like all of their vocals. I wish I understood the argument in the last one! A much stronger bunch than the first. Sapir was extremely good at conveying emotion, although I’m not 100% sure she’s strong enough to win the whole thing. Evyatar just chilling while the judges were arguing was brilliant, but again, not the best of the bunch, and the sisters were also a little under the standard of the others. Neomi, Ela, and Dave are my pick of the bunch. Ela’s thing has been done before, but she still does it well, and it will… Read more »

Oh, we can take a deep breath and relax now!

Ela Daniel should win it all, and Neomi the runner-up. Last year my favourite was Sari Nachmias, then she finished third. I hope Ela will make so much better!

Hope to see her also winning at Stockholm! The thing is, IBA, if you’d put a great effort on Ela’s song you can take the contest to Jerusalem in 2017! Please colloborate her with a strong producer as you did last year, and work with international songwriters.
