Lights, camera, action! After a week of anticipation among Portuguese Eurovision fans, it was finally time to see the brilliant Filipa Azevedo compete on The Voice stage for a shot at making the live shows. A lot was at stake. Before her performance, Miss Azevedo was quite emotional talking about how people in her past have used her, owing to her young, somewhat naive persona. After her stellar performance at Eurovision 2010, she entered six years of retirement, during which she worked as a shopkeeper. This performance was an effort to get back in the game and try her luck in the music industry once more.

Taking on “Lay Me Down”, one of Sam Smith’s biggest hits, Filipa served some vocal acrobatic realness and gave judge Marisa Liz major goosebumps. Filipa totally slayed the competition and booked her ticket to the live shows, which start next week. You go girl!

Filipa at Eurovision 2010

In 2010, Filipa Azevedo took Portugal to the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest with a stunning performance of “Há dias Assim” (It’s one of those days), channeling her inner Disney princess and casting a spell on Europe! It was the last time Portugal made it to the final.

Do you think Filipa Azevedo is going to be The Voice? Were you thrilled to see her back on the stage? Let us know below!

When will this annoying Eurovision correlation between ballads and Disney ever stop … every time people mention it it all comes down as bad and boring … seriously? Disney bad and boring? Do you even have respect for the Disney legacy? Or all those dum tek tek and free alcohol are worthier of your intelligence?

I hope this time my country will give her a chance! She is brilliant and she deserves it! For all that she already gave us (in the ESC)! Congrats Filipa 🙂
