“The Next Star For Eurovision 2016”, the singing reality show that will choose Israel’s representative for Eurovision, continued auditions this week with a special two-part episode broadcast on Friday and Saturday. As ever, the auditions were entertaining, emotional and at times bizarre. But five artists managed to convince the judges and the audience of their talent and earned a ticket to the next phase of the show. Will any of them be the next “Golden Boy”? Find out below. And if you missed the previous episodes, you can watch all of them here.

THE NEXT STAR: EPISODE 3 QUALIFIERS

Uriel Aharoni
Uriel is 28 years old and comes from a musical family. His mother, a music teacher, suffered a car accident and was left in a coma for several months. It was during that time Uriel wrote and recorded the song “Fight”. He later played it for her in hospital. During his audition he sang the song with his family on stage, including his mother, of course. He made all of the judges shed a tear.

Sharon Fartuk
Sharon is 17 years old and she came to Israel from France at the age of 8. She’s not had an easy life, but, during a particularly low period, decided to make the most of it. Music has played a part of it and helped her overcome her issues, such as having no contact with her father. She sang the song “Mikol Ha’Ahavot” (“Of All The Loves”).

Maya Bernadski
Maya is a 19-year-old soldier. She’s been studying classical music for the past six years and sings opera.

THE NEXT STAR: EPISODE 4 QUALIFIERS

Maya Smirnov
Maya came to Israel 14 years ago. She was a very successful actress in Russia, but now hopes to become a singer. She took on Édith Piaf’s song “La Vie En Rose”, delivering it with her signature theatricality. After her successful audition one of Israel’s biggest theatres rang her up for another audition.

Yoni Grayev
Yoni is 21 years old and sings at weddings and other events. In his audition he sang the Israeli version of Rihanna’s “Unfaithful”: “Sipur Chayay (Story Of My Life)”.

The auditions will continue in the coming weeks, followed by the second phase of the show where the judges will choose the actual finalists. At that point all of the acts will sing each week, with one biting the dust each time. Those shows will air on Friday night.

Which artist do you like the most so far? Who do you think would do well for Israel at Eurovision?

Unfortunately, welcome to eurovision, it’s about the ratings just as much as it’s about the ratings.

Everything about this show is contrived. I’m not interested in people who want to have their moment on stage for self-vindication, recognition, solidarity or pity. These kind of tear-jerkers are nothing but calculated ploys that have nothing to do with Eurovision and are ratings-driven for domestic intents and purposes.
