It wouldn’t be Eurovision national selection season without the two D’s – drama and disqualification. The latest news from Hungary has a huge heap of both. Just two weeks after the producers of A Dal announced the artists that would compete in its fifth edition, reggae group Misztrál and their song “Reggeli reggae” have been disqualified and replaced. Sorry ’bout it…

As every Eurovision fan knows, one of the most important rules is that no entry can be released prior to September 1 of the year prior to the contest. Misztrál had released their entry prior to then, thereby resulting in a just disqualification. This would have been the group’s first time competing in A Dal. You can listen to their song here.

Their replacement is Viki Singh, a Hungarian of Indian descent who placed 31st in the A Dal shortlist. Singh’s entry “Katonák” (Soldiers), is an emotional ballad that shows her vocal abilities effectively.

This year’s edition of A Dal will also feature the Kallay-Saunders Band, fronted by András Kallay-Saunders, who placed fifth solo in 2014. Other returning artists include Ív and Passed. The competition will kick off on January 23, leading up to the final on February 27.

Viki is good and her song sounds better than most of those who made the initial list.

Ridiculous how many artists get caught out by this rule.

Kallay-Saunders band’s song is the best. I hope they will win A Dal and Eurovision. Budapest 2017!
