Last year was a memorable one for Germany’s Ann Sophie. She represented her country at Eurovision 2015 with “Black Smoke” (under some pretty controversial circumstances) and also released her debut album “Silver Into Gold”. It wasn’t always easy. In the video below, Ann Sophie tells us that 2015 “was tough” and debuts a new song she wrote about her hope for a better year ahead, as well as standing up after taking a fall. “There are so many songs for Christmas, so I thought another New Year’s song wouldn’t hurt,” she says.

The lyrics brim with optimism and hope. She’s put her signature sass to the side, focusing instead on an uplifting melody. Her vocals are as on-point as ever. “We recollect the moments, what we did right and our mistakes,” she says. ” We toast to another year, and that all the bad fades.”

New Years Eve – Ann Sophie

Friends no more? Ann Sophie and Thomas Schreiber

The “fall” likely refers to her last-place finish at Eurovision and the cold shoulder she got from her team afterwards. On November 19 — the day after Germany announced that Xavier Naidoo would sing at Eurovision 2016 — she explained that Thomas Schreiber, who oversaw Germany’s Eurovision participation, just wasn’t that into her anymore. This is what she wrote on her official Facebook page at the time:

I remember how we sat together with the NDR team, Universal, and Brainpool in Hamburg before we went to Vienna. We spoke about the final details, and I was excited and very much looking forward to it. Back then we got along really well, had a lot of fun and I asked: ‘Will we get along this well after Eurovision too?’ The answer: ‘That’ll depend on how you do.’ I thought they were joking. But… they weren’t.

Well, karma is a beast — and it appears to have bit back at the German Eurovision team. We don’t need to recount the drama that led them to pull the plug on Naidoo’s Eurovision participation

Interestingly, Ann Sophie’s song currently lacks a title and she has asked her fans to suggest a name. What do you think it should be called? Let us know in the comments below!

New Years Eve lyrics – Ann Sophie

Another year is over
Another year has passed
We all sit together
At last

We all hope for peace, for love
For everything we’re dreaming of
We all hope for quiet time
And that everything will be fine

We recollect the moments
What we did right and our mistakes
We toast to another year
And that all the bad fades

We all hope for peace, for love
For everything we’re dreaming of
We all hope for a better world
After all

[Chorus] So let’s celebrate life
And everything we did right
And let’s stand up tall
Even when we’re hurting from the fall
Let’s follow our paths
And that nothing discourages us
Let’s stand up tall
Let’s stand up tall

“Is this the real life?
Or is this just fantasy?“
We all sing together
To Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody

We all hope for peace, for love
For everything we’re dreaming of
Please turn the music up
This is our favorite song

[Chorus]

We refill our glasses
We laugh and we dance
As long as we’re together
The world is safe

We all hope for peace, for love
For everything we’re dreaming of
Another glass of Champagne
And let’s sing it all

[Chorus]

Toast to another year.

I really like the song, and Ann Sophie.
Still can’t believe she got nil points.
This song could make a good entry.

I am a Mega-Fan of Ann! I really love this and I saw this come out seconds after she uploaded! YEEEEESSS! If I had to name it – I like Franco’s Idea – 31/12. Dang, I just saw the translation of what she said about NDR today – how could you not still like Ann? She did her best, and for what it’s worth – she should’ve won in my opinion. Germany sends good stuff every year – I’m hoping for more (though I don’t like a lot of their staging – like sometimes something going on in the background… Read more »

I feel so bad for Ann Sophie and how she got treated by NDR and Thomas Schreiber in particular… All countries are proud of their contestants and Germany always seems to reject their representatives after a bad result. After all, it’s not Ann Sophie’s fault that Germany got a bad result, but NDR’s because they failed to choose a good song for her and come up with a professional stage concept. Ann Sophie was new to Eurovision, while NDR officials, such as Thomas Schreiber, are in charge for Eurovision for 10 years already. They should know how it works… but… Read more »

Name for her song? Zero / Nobody Wants You / You Are Not A Winner / Find A New Job / Shame in Vienna

This lady is LOL and biggest mistake in German ESC history. Sorry, Guildo Horn and Stefan Raab (as singer) were worst.

I wonder has she attempted for a career in the UK because I feel her niche is kind of in at the moment there :/

I’d go for “31/12”.
I wish the best things for Ann Sophie in 2016. She’s a talented singer and a charming person. She was wronged by the scoring system and she deserves another chance at Eurovision.

I think a title like “The Rise” would suit perfectly :3
