After Eurovision 2012 representative Donny Montell came out on top in last week’s show, it was time for round two of Lithuania’s Eurovizijos atranka 2016. Earlier tonight we met the remaining hopefuls who shouted, pouted and sang their original entries. The second episode saw the return of Jurgis Bruzga, who narrowly missed a Top 3 spot last year. Ugne Kudlaite, the lead singer of the already-qualified rock group Behind the Moon, went solo under her stage name Ugne Smile. Talk about two-timing! Andrius Rozickas and Geruta Griniute once again co-hosted, serving up chemistry and a few laughs as they guided us through the eight-act spectacle.
Eurovizijos atranka 2016: Show Two Running Order
Jurgis Bruzga – “Hold On”
Ugne Smile – “You Don’t Know”
Lawreigna – “Falling”
Ištvan Kvik & Ellada – “Please Don’t Cry”
Catrinah – “Be Free”
Egle Jakstyte – “Leisk Dar Buti”
Valdas Lacko – “Stay Tonight”
Ruta Šciogolevaite – “United”
Show Two Jury Panel
Lithuania – Darius Uzkuraitis, Nomeda Kazlaus, Ramunas Zilnys and Vaidas Baumila.
International – Peter Freudenthaler and Karl Frierson (both from Germany), Syron (UK).
As usual, the overall result consisted of two parts: 50% came from televoting, with a combination of Lithuanian and international juries making up the other 50%. After all of tonight’s participants performed, Jurgis Bruzga, Lawreigna and Ugne Smile were eliminated. The rest of the acts advanced to the next stage, with Ruta Šciogolevaite emerging as tonight’s winner. Her song “United” is a cheesy, life-affirming number about “looking to your heart” during tough times and “making a change.” She’s striving for Polina Gagarina realness with lyrics like: “We can achieve if we believe it.” There’s even a hand-clapping bridge that totally smacks of Russia 2015! Do you think she pulled it off?

R?ta better SNATCH! That televoting lead, much higher than Donny’s. Europe isn’t ready for hurricane R?ta to come slay us! She better win the whole thing so I can vote for her in Stockholm!!!
Egle best.
I don’t understand us Lithuanians. In May we clap our hands and celebrate, that we didn’t give Russia any points, because the song was so cheesy, especially coming from Russia, and now, look what we’ve got. We are praising the same! Guys, this is not how it should work.
OMG what crap.
I have a suggestion. Why not making a black list of words and phrases for ESC songs. If you use 3 of them or more in one song – 3 strikes you’re out!
For example:
Peace
Harmony
Heart
Hope
United
Make a change
Shout it out
Make it better
Believe in
Forever
Together
Children
Shine
All those cheesy words that people, especially non-English speakers, feel they must place in an ESC song… it’s hideous!
It was Donny Mans Montell last week and now we got Ruta Polina Sciogolevaite.
Next heat will be won by someone resembling our third placers from last year …… Some Lithuanian opera boy band Los Volos lol.
This one is shaping up to be the worst national final of the season. I just watched 3 songs admittedly (Ruta, Donny and Erica) and they were ALL terrible. I hope 3rd heat has something worthy of a win. It is very strange how Lithuania alternates between really good and really bad. In 2012, Love is Blind was awesome. In 2013, Attention was a hot mess. Last year, This time was awesome. I guess we are back to hot mess this year.
United is a horrible song and Lithuania would be very dumb to send it to Eurovision. Even Donny Saucedo’s lackluster I’ve Been Waiting for This Night is miles better. Petunija is still my favorite.

Wow… Do you remember ‘Emma’ and ‘Give a little love back to the world’ this would fit perfectly back in the 90s. It would have had me cheering beneath my duvet as I stayed up late to watch and had me prancing around the playground proudly singing the lyrics. Now I’m in my 30s and the world has moved on… And yet I know tomorrow on the train to work I will be singing “we stand united” and wishing I had a light up dance floor and maybe a comically large microphone.
United, what a TERRIBLE SONG!! I couldn’t help but throw up a little in the back of my mouth with the cheesiness of those lyrics!!
I agree with Eugene, i think it has the same formula, but the songs themselves don’t sound really alike in my opinion. I actually kinda like it 😛
we all know it’s now in the early hours of my favorite singer, Francoise Hardy’s birthday, but sad news in the eurovision world to ruin it, Celine’s brother has died of Cancer.
I’m really surprised Ugne Smile came last – the song wasn’t bad at all!!
Catrinah is quite good.
Last years eurovision song “Heroes” is very similar to David Guettas “Lovers on the sun”, but nobody payed so much attention to that and the singer who sung “Heroes” still won eurovision. So I don’t think it’s bad to send Ruta to eurovision. I actually don’t even think that it’s a copy of “A Million Voices”. They both have very similar voices, but the songs sound different to me…
Lithuania never make an impact at Eurovision, so I’m not expecting much, considering this song is a complete copy of “million voices.”
@EugeneESCUK, the last ones won the heats only because the producers decided to keep the best ones for the end and put the last to sing. Because Ruta and Donny are well-known artists around other not so well-known, so everyone put high hopes on them already.
I am Lithuanian and I also think it would be such a mistake tu send Ruta. It is worse copy of “Million Voices” and everyone notices that, but they still vote for her just because she is Ruta. She is good, well-known and really professional singer in Lithuania, so people vote for her, because they trust in her. They believe, that she won’t disappoint us. However, I am sure that this would be a bad choice and I think sending Donny Montel is way better idea. Better try to seach soemthing new, inspiring and not the thing, that already, even… Read more »
well at least it looks that Ruta believes in what she sings… not like similar entry from last year when it was all fake..
This was one of those NFs where you can’t help but suspect that there was stuff going on behind the scenes that wasn’t quite kosher. For one thing, the off-key vocals were reminiscent of Moldova 2015. EVERYBODY was out-of-tune, which indicates there was a tech issue, not a performer issue. Because of that, it’s kind of hard to say whether the results were deserved or not. I’ll tell you this though … If Lithuania thinks Ruta’s song has a snowball’s chance at making it to the final because it resembles A Million Voices, they’re out of their minds. It’s not… Read more »
omg Rutas song is literally LIKE LITERALLY a copy of Polina’s this should be disqualified immediately. Even the verses sound familiar. And the whole melody… just urgh…. Anyway, hopefully Catrinah did good because i liked her song previously
Ruta’s song is a clear copycat of Russia 2015 my God… everything about this resembles Polina
