The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 kicks off on January 22, so we just had to squeeze in a few interviews with the contestants before the madness begins. Ahead of rehearsals we had a face-to-face with Dario Mifsud Bonnici, who finally made it to the MESC (after several attempts) with his song “I Love You”. He is ready, but are you?

Dario currently teaches voice at the famous La Voix Academy, alongside Gillian Attard — the woman who coached JESC stars including Federica Falzon and Gaia Cauchi. “Gillian saw my performance at the Summer Hit Song Contest and called me right after it and asked me to be a vocal coach at her Academy,” he says. “Of course I said yes, even if it wasn’t planned at all. It just happened!”

And what of his song?

“My song ‘I Love You’ is like a demo of myself. But we weren’t quite sure with the title, as we thought it would be too cheesy, but in the end we took it. When I sing the song, of course, I think about my wife who always supports me and, of course, my fans and followers!”

“My inspiration to sing comes from X-Factor as I’m a huge fan of the show because it gives a big platform for talents. I also follow international artists and Eurovision is the perfect place for it”!
