Despite Belgium’s best efforts to shake things up, Ireland’s Nicky Byrne is your favourite Eurovision 2016 act for a second week. Of the 1,554 votes cast since Monday 18 January, the “Sunlight” singer earned 688, or roughly 43%. That’s down from the 762 votes he received last week, but then that’s to be expected since there are more acts to choose from.

Nicky Byrne “Sunlight”

Laura Tesoro’s victory in Belgium has ruffled many feathers (including Kate Ryan’s), but nonetheless her entry “What’s The Pressure” debuts at number two on our poll, picking up a respectable 482 votes (31%). Could the release of the studio version help her rise up the rankings next time?

Laura Tesoro “What’s The Pressure”

Last but not least, we have Albania’s Eneda Tarifa. Laura asks what’s the pressure, perhaps Eneda can give us the answer. That’s not to say “Përrallë” (Fairytale) fared particularly badly in this weeks poll. It still managed to get  a respectable 404 votes or just over 25% of all votes cast. And it would be foolish to write off  “Përrallë” (Fairytale) before we hear the promised revamp.

Your Eurovision Favourites on 22 January (3 Acts)

  1. Ireland: Nicky Byrne “Sunlight” 42.99% (668 votes)
  2. Belgium: Laura Tesoro “What’s The Pressure” 31.02% (482 votes)
  3. Albania: Eneda Tarifa “Përrallë” (Fairytale) 25.99% (404 votes)

Total Votes: 1,554

Thankfully, this isn’t a battle royale. Our trio will return to the ring once again when we relaunch the poll on Sunday. They’ll be joined by two new adversaries in the shape of the winners from the Belarusian and Maltese national selections.

What do you think of the current standings? Does Ireland deserve to be at number one for a second week? And can it hold on to the top spot now that the competition is picking up pace? Who’s your Eurovision favourite? Let us know below.

That picture of him on that bike is amazing. Can’t stop looking at it, what a hunk. And yes, the song is very nice, indeed. Go, Ireland!

The situation in the Eurovision doing similar to the situation in football. Only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munchen and maybe PSG are strong. In the ESC Russia, Sweden and Ukraine are big powers and they are strong almost every year, while other countries weakened.

For me here are three craps. Albania is worst, but Belgium and Ireland unfortunately also look hopeless. These are not songs for Eurovision!

@EugeneESCUK When they start coming out, can you but the links to those polls in comments later please? Overall most of the songs chosen or in pre-selection have been meh. Three or four from Estonia and 1 from Hungary, then the rest are kind either feeling like they are missing something, are meh, or rubbish. The past two years have been a bit of an ESC zenith in terms of song quality. I am hopping more countries will be showing better songs later, such as Sweden, and Russia. But even the perennial favorites Denmark and Norway feel meh. I can… Read more »

Belgium receiving second place is a bit of a surprise
I thought after all of the groaning about What’s The Pressure everyone would keep it firmly in last

I can’t help feeling Nicky’s song is and will be popular by virtue of who he is rather than the song itself; pleasant enough but quite ordinary. More of an album track than a Eurovision winner.

I like Ireland the best so far this year, but I dont want to be biased, but I do think RTE made a good, but safe choice. But it wont win. It will qualify for the final, but that is all RTE are looking for. Especially when Eurovision fan favorites like Ukraine, Greece, Bosnia-Hezegovina have yet to reveal their songs and the permanent top 10ers like Russia, Romania and Azerbaijan also have to release their songs. I predict ESC will be going back East in 2017, such as Georgia, Russia, Latvia, Estonia or Hungary. We might even see Australia win, because… Read more »

Ireland did too well in polls last year, so will be the same this year no doubt. Also expect Armenia and Georgia to be up there at the top as others have already mentioned…

Ireland’s song is infectious which I think will help it especially since it has been released so early. It’s not a belter nor a dance extravaganza but it just is one that I feel people will remember

Might not be Georgians this year – but there will be one song that comes ridiculously high.

Poor songs so far but Albania underated here. Ireland and Belgium are generic entries with poor vocals and neither deserve to do well.

Ireland is clearly the best entry picked so far. I don’t see why people are going out of there way to de-fame it.

What’s the use of these polls? When Georgia’s entry will be released, Georgians will make sure that it will top every single poll until the day of the contest. Just like last year when their singer (I already forgot her name, all I remember is that she was wearing too much makeup) won almost every poll and yet scored nothing at Eurovision.

i don’t think much will change on sunday, ireland and malta will probably fight for the first place and belarus probably last.
