The Wiwi Jury – our in-house panel of music unprofessionals – is continuing its journey around Lithuania ahead of the fifth Eurovizija show on Saturday. Previously, Ieva Zasimauskaite got us feeling all melancholic with“Life (Not That Beautiful)”.  Can Ruslanas Kirilkinas offer us some cheer with “In My World”? Read on to find out…

Ruslanas Kirilkinas “In My World” live

Reviews: Ruslanas Kirilkinas with “In My World”

Robyn: I really wish that LRT could do something to match Lithuania’s talented singers with better songs. Ruslanas is clearly one of the best singers in the national final this year, but “In My World” is such a forgettable song. Still, Ruslanas gives a great performance and the staging adds an extra emotional dimension to the song.

Score: 7/10

Angus: Ruslanas has a super voice but “In My World” is a huge disappointment. The smart and sensitive staging completely upstages him and the minimalism of the song leaves little for the imagination to grab onto.

Score: 3/10

Antranig: When I saw the name Ruslanas, I was expecting a fierce diva to break out some “Wild Dances”. The difference between the two is night and day but that doesn’t make this terrible. I love the daners’ performance and he’s an exceptionally talented singer. But the song is simply average. There’s a lot to like about it though.

Score: 6.5/10

Anthony: Ugh. Another talented singer that’s been paired with a song that lets them down. It may have been a hit with the Lithuanian televoters and juries during its heat, but international Eurovision fans like myself will switch off very quickly. I ended up paying more attention to the bench featuring a Frank Lampard Sr lookalike, followed by the two dancers.

Score: 3.5/10

Steinunn: Creepy is the first word that comes to mind. I guess it’s supposed to be oh so arty, but man do those poor people on stage fail. The song itself isn’t all bad, apart from the fact that Ruslanas sings/whispers “I miss you” too many times. Having said that, I’d rather watch my laundry dry than see that staging again.

Score: 3/10

Ruslanas Kirilkinas - In My World

Bernardo: Just five seconds in, and despite his voice, I’m already thinking toilet break. I don’t know what’s happening in Lithuania, such poorly produced songs and such good artists. Work some magic and give it to Ruslanas, because he can do the job if given the chance.

Score: 5.5/10

Mikhail: Yet another dull ballad. Despite the powerful finish, “In My World” doesn’t stand out at all. The only good thing here is Ruslanas’ voice. It is strong and he can deliver. But, unfortunately, no one can save this song.

Score: 4/10

Liam: The opening brings back memories of “Time” from Belarus last year. However, “In My World” is not a dance song, but rather a mellow and lovely ballad. Though in need of major production changes, it’s certainly good, and definitely in the running for victory.

Score: 7.5/10

Ruslanas Kirilkinas In My World Lithuania 2016

Luis: Ruslanas might not have been paired with the best song, but I love the way he tries to give his best. “In My World” lacks power and personality, but Ruslanas exudes both. He has a lot of potential, but he needs a big tune and not this lullaby.

Score: 6/10

Padraig: Too musical theatre to function! And not a high-end Broadway or West End production. “In My World” is too mawkish to be taken seriously. From the maudlin lyrics to the tacky staging to Ruslanas’ cloying delivery, it’s complete overkill. And don’t get me started on the clunky keychange that’s thrown in at the end. Best to be avoided.
