Preslava — the undisputed queen of Bulgarian pop-folk — has just unveiled her latest single “In Control”. The collaboration with Stefan Ilchev clocks in at 3:36 and could easily be cut down to three minutes. It’s also sung entirely in English. Interestingly, one of the composers is DJ Diyan — who represented Bulgaria at Eurovision as part of Deep Zone. Earlier this year he told us that he may be working on a Eurovision collaboration for a former Eurovision contestant, but maybe he’s now working with future ones as well? Taken together, the release will no doubt fuel speculation that Preslava is a contender to sing for Bulgaria at Eurovision 2016.

The song, among the first Preslava has released in English, stays true to her roots. It melds elements of Turbo-folk, dance and pop and has an easy-to-remember chorus: “You’re the only one that belongs in control, never give up do what you want, in control…” I’m feeling the production, but I’d prefer to see Preslava going solo. This queen needs a full three minutes to herself!

Preslava’s “In Control”

As we previously reported, Bulgarian National Television is considering three acts for Eurovision 2016: Poli Genova, Preslava and the to-be-determined winner of X Factor Bulgaria (the favourite being twenty-five-year-old Christiana Loizou). When we learned that Preslava was in the mix our mouths dropped: She’s long been on our radar as a dream contestant for Bulgaria. In fact, our Bulgarian blogger Sinan named her our top pick for Eurovision way back in July 2014.

Do you like the song? Do you think it’d be better with just Preslava and not Stefan? Let us know in the comments section below.

Christiana Loizou already won the X factor and she is the perfect one to represent Bulgaria.

Nah. I was expecting a mind-blowing ballad with 100% Bulgarian lyrics.

This is terrible, there’s nothing salvageable here. I hope this isn’t the song… Bulgaria would have no chances to reach the final and I really want them to.

Christiana Loizou won The X Factor Bulgaria anyway. Turns out she is actually a Cypriot and studied music in the UK but moved to Bulgaria.

Looks like they’ve borrowed Mihai’s space ship for the video

This seems somewhat k-pop inspired to me. My issue is that it’s hard to tell what Preslava is saying. I think it’s a neat song overall, though. Cut out the excessive autotune, enunciate the English more and Preslava could be a good choice.

This song is horrible. I don’t mind Preslava representing Bulgaria but if she does please sing a nice folk-pop song in Bulgarian, not this English dance crap.

I’m on the fence with this one. On the one hand, its cheap pop (which I love) and seems like an OK entry but looking at Preslava’s previous work, I would be disappointed if this was the entry because its not dated but it doesn’t feel current and its lacks a certain touch for Bulgaria to advance. I’m unsure ????

Hope it’s not because it sounds like a very cheap produced song to me. The song is trying so hard to sound modern but it’s not! Sorry

No, this most likely isn’t the Bulgarian entry at ESC 2016, as I clearly remember BNT saying on Twitter that they selected a female singer, while this song is sung by a mixed-gender duet.
