Last December Russia’s broadcaster VGTRK revealed that Sergey Lazarev will follow in Polina Gagarina’s footsteps and represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. Ever since then we have been eagerly awaiting more information about his song. We’re still waiting. But today we finally got the official date for the song reveal — and it’s March 3.

Producer and Eurovision veteran Philipp Kirkorov has assembled a team of professionals to work on Sergey’s song and it seems that they are now ready. As we previously reported, the song will be written by Philipp together with Greek songwriter Dimitris Kontopoulos. The men have worked together on Eurovision hits like “Shady Lady” and “Shine“.

We still don’t now much about the song itself, but based on Sergey’s previous hits, we can assume it ain’t going to be another peace ballad — at least we hope not!

What do you expect from Sergey Lazarev? Tell us in the comments!

@Jonas, I’m not going to give you any examples or explanations. if you can’t feel what is song and its message, how people feel the message and how they can relate to it (or discard as something strange). You made my day, you’re te first human being who accused me, LGBT member, in being homophobic. After a dose of hard laugh I’m not going to reproduce it again. Our discussion is over, Jonas

actually, here’s the video with “Take it Off” performed live by Sergey Lazarev in BoyZ club (Moscow, Russia) in 2014. This one makes me smile – his shoes 🙂

@ESCaddict, I’ve heard from friends who occasionally attend clubs and who watch for such events. Lazarev used to perform in club BoyZ (Moscow, Russia) in 2014, and he gave a performance dedicated to ESC on 12 or 13 Dec 2015. There’s press reviews of this event and even small video (russian site)
http://tv.mk.ru/video/2015/12/13/sergey-lazarev-vystupil-v-geyklube.html

also if you’ll google a bit, you can find more videos, if interested. I won’t put here any links, as it’s a bit specific matter.

@oxyk
You have heard Sergey is promoting the song in gay clubs. Where did you hear this? A reliable source?

Okay. So you think he’s going to sing “boy”…somehow I doubt that. Give some other examples of “gay pop songs”.

Monseñor aqui no esparces tu propaganda ….Donald Trup y no atacas a los paises que segun tu criterio tienen canciones deviles y nunca ganaran en Estocolmo, por casualidad eres de ese pais tan democratico y liberal, eres Ruso? NO

@Jonas, you’re over reacting. there’s nothing homophobic in my words. songs serve it’s purpose, and I do not agree that they have no sexuality. the performer tells the story. If in that video “Take if off” Lazarev would start a song with words “Boy, you got me”, and you let’s say a straight male, will you enjoy that song the same as gay male? 🙂

Oxyk – how can a pop song be gay? A song has no sexuality.

Your post is overtly homophobic.

The song is not important. The whole performance must be sealed.

I’m really hoping the song is not going to be a ballad, I want something similar to “Take It Off”, because I’m absolutely obsessed with that song. Sergey has so much energy in him & I feel like a ballad would not show that. Fingers crossed!

it will be some gay pop song, if he want’s to score anything. his voice is not that great for a ballad, he’ll need his pink pants and cheesy show to impress his gay fans. I’ve heard he already started promo performances in gay clubs in Moscow.

Lets hope for a dance song from Russia this year. Kontopoulos is famous in Greece for his amazing dance songs. I would like something like that for Lazarev:

It won’t be a peace ballad… it will be a “Take it off, let’s get naked and come together” uptempo song 😛

…did I said out loud?
